Waifu Wednesday: Nene

I’ve been playing a lot of Warriors Orochi 3 lately, so I feel it’s high time we had another Warriors waifu to celebrate.

This time around it’s the turn of Nene, a character who has had several names over the years. While she’s known as Nene in the Warriors Orochi series, she’s also been known as One (pronounced oh-nay), Nei and, probably most commonly when referring to the real historical figure, Kōdai-in.

Like most of the characters from the Warriors series, there’s a variety of interesting things to learn about her. So let’s dive in and investigate!

Warriors Orochi 2: More of the Same?

I love me a Musou. So naturally, with the new hotness being Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity at the time of writing, I thought it was high time I continued my journey through the completely unrelated Warriors Orochi series.

Longtime followers of my work will recall that a while back I did a full playthrough of the first Warriors Orochi over on YouTube, and that ended up being a rather enjoyable experience that I learned a lot from. Having called time on long series playthroughs in video format — the short-form, single-episode “variety” format seems to work much better for everyone, including me — I thought I’d explore the sequel in written form over the course of a few articles, much like I did with the excellent Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition a while back.

So today we kick off with a high-level overview of what Warriors Orochi 2 is, my impressions of it to date, and the things I’d like to learn a bit more about it. Hit the jump and let’s begin our journey!

Warriors Wednesday: One-Woman Army – Warriors Orochi #41

The Shu gang still hasn’t quite tracked down Liu Bei, so Zhurong and Meng Huo decide to sneak off for a bit of independent investigation.

Along the way, they encounter Jude from Tales of Xillia Musashi Miyamoto and decide to lend a hand, as he and his swordsmen friends appear to be struggling a bit.

Hell hath no fury like a bored barbarian lady, it seems…

With an outfit like that, it was only a matter of time before Zhurong gave the people what they wanted. And in slow-motion, too!

Ahem. Anyway, besides that little diversion, today’s Warriors Orochi outing sees the Shu gang teaming up with Wu’s Sun Ce in yet another sure-to-fail attempt to track down the perpetually absent Liu Bei. Will Zhao Yun ever be reunited with the man he lov– err… I mean, his master?

Only time will tell! For now, enjoy the barbaric butt-kicking, courtesy of Zhurong.

Warriors Wednesday: Shu on Wu – Warriors Orochi #38

In this week’s Warriors Orochi mission, the various narratives cross paths as the Shu forces take on the Wu warriors who have been brought to heel by Orochi.

This conflict, which unfolded off-screen during the Wu campaign, sees the Shu people continuing their quest to track down the missing Liu Bei… only to find a bit of a surprise waiting for them at the conclusion of their mission.

It seems Zhao Yun is not to be reunited with his precious lord just yet… but there’s certainly never a dull moment in the lives of these brave fighters.

Waifu Wednesday: Ginchiyo Tachibana

Those of you who have been following the Warriors Wednesday series of videos will know that in each of Warriors Orochi’s campaigns, I’ve found one warrior in particular who has proven to be an ever-reliable killing machine that I can fall back on in most circumstances.

In the Shu campaign, which we’re currently embroiled in the middle of at the time of writing, that warrior is Ginchiyo Tachibana, someone who erstwhile protagonist-of-sorts Zhao Yun and friends stumble across in the very first mission.

She’s grown to be a formidable force on the battlefield and one of my favourite characters to play as — so let’s take a closer look at who she really is.

Warriors Wednesday: Spirits of Sanada – Warriors Orochi #34

Oh no! Ghosts! They ruin everything. Particularly when they’re not actually there.

This is the painful lesson that Yukimura Sanada has to learn in today’s Warriors Orochi mission. Fortunately, Zhao Yun, Yue Ying and Ginchiyo Tachibana are right there ready and waiting to educate him with various pointy implements.

Hit the jump to see how the Shu gang’s attempts to prove their corporeal nature went…

Warriors Wednesday: Not Just a Woman – Warriors Orochi #31

Having soundly kicked Orochi’s behind into next week with both the Samurai and Wu forces, it’s now the turn of Shu to suffer under my command as we once again take on Crazy Snake Guy.

All of the various forces in Warriors Orochi start in a fairly desperate situation of one form or another, but Shu seems to have it worse than most. Still, all is not as it seems in this strange other dimension, and a true warrior never gives up!

Hit the jump to see the beginning of a whole new quest…

Warriors Wednesday: Wu Warriors vs Orochi – Warriors Orochi #29

It’s that time again… time to face down Crazy Snake Guy and decide the fate of ancient China and/or Samurai-era Japan once and for all.

Yes, our playthrough of the Wu campaign in Warriors Orochi has finally reached the final mission (aside from the last side mission, which we’ll take on next week) and thus, there’s just one thing left to do, having reunited the Sun family beneath the banner of the tiger…

Hit the jump to see how the Sun bros (and sis… err, and dad) got on with this one last challenge…

Warriors Wednesday: How The Wild Man Does It – Warriors Orochi #26

How DOES The Wild Man do it? Find out in today’s thrilling installment of Warriors Wednesday, as the Wu forces attempt to prove themselves to Keiji Maeda.

If you were looking forward to seeing my smiling face again on this video, apologies to disappoint; I recorded this before I got the new gear necessary to display my smiling face on videos. If, on the other hand, you were disgusted and repulsed by my fearful countenance in Sunday’s Split/Second video, consider this momentary relief.

Hit the jump to see how today’s battle went.
