Waifu Wednesday: Yumi

You all seemed to enjoy getting to know MoeGamer site mascot Midori last week, so it’s high time we gave her best friend Yumi the opportunity to introduce herself.

Yumi, like Midori, has been part of MoeGamer since the very beginning in one form or another, and also appeared in the GameCast.

She doesn’t speak a lot of English, however, so Midori will be joining us to assist where necessary. Let’s see how this goes…

Waifu Wednesday: Midori

It occurs to me that in five years of this site being A Thing, I’ve never really gone ahead and actually introduced the site’s mascots Midori, Yumi and Penelope.

I mean, yes, they all played a role in the GameCast project I undertook a while back (and am still keen to return to when I find the time and/or inclination!) but for those who didn’t play through all those episodes, chances are you may be wondering who these random girls who keep showing up on my pages are.

Well, let’s rectify that with a few interviews, shall we? Let’s begin with the site’s lead mascot, Midori.

Midori’s First Fanart!

Just a quickie for now, a full article coming later — but I wanted to share this.

My good buddy Chris “MrGilderPixels” Caskie has been beavering away on a piece of Midori fanart, and it’s finally ready to share with the world! Check it out, I love it to bits.

2017-12-28-moegamer-midori-poster-2017928Chris makes pixel art in both the physical and digital realms, including lovely wooden pixel art wall plaques and standees. Check out his site for updates on his various projects’ progress, and order some of his past work or commission yourself a pixel art avatar on his Etsy shop.

The MoeGamer GameCast: Episode 10 – Season 1 Finale

In this week’s GameCast… the truth about Penelope! If you can prove your worth, that is…

This episode features a quiz that you need to beat in order to get the best ending. Rather than having to get full marks as with Midori’s JRPG quiz from Episode 3, however, in this case you have a bit more margin for error. All the answers can be found somewhere on this site. Good luck!

This is the last episode of the GameCast for a little while, since I’m starting a new full-time job tomorrow and don’t yet have an idea of how busy and/or tired it’s going to keep me. Once I have a better grasp of the situation, expect a second season of the GameCast if it’s practical for me to produce one.

Original music, as ever, is the work of MusMus, and the awesome retro font is by Style64. Other music in this episode remains the copyright of its respective owners. There’s a bunch of pieces from a variety of different games in this one.

The MoeGamer GameCast: Episode 9 – Garden of Memories, Part 2

In this week’s GameCast, Midori, Yumi and I continue our exploration of the Garden of Memories, and I share some further recollections that are important to me.

Original music, as ever, is the work of MusMus, and the awesome retro font is by Style64. Other music in this episode remains the copyright of its respective owners; you’ll also hear a piece from former Cover Game Megadimension Neptunia V-II as part of this episode.

The MoeGamer GameCast: Episode 2

In this episode, Midori, Yumi, Penelope and I talk about whether it’s professional to cover your eyes at the prospect of boobs, one of the most well-received anime in the current season, Steam Greenlight and more.

The GameCast as a whole has had a few minor refinements since Episode 1. Music should now loop properly rather than fading out and starting again every couple of minutes, and I redid the interface buttons I wasn’t happy with.

Music, as before, is by watson of MusMus, and the font is the work of Style64.

Something special coming for Episode 3 that I didn’t have time to implement in this one. Please look forward to it!

The MoeGamer GameCast: Episode 1

In this episode, Midori, Yumi, Penelope and I talk Grisaia, bonking, Ace Combat and more.

You’ll notice a few tweaks from the pilot episode, most notably the addition of a custom interface and font as well as some distinctive PC-98-inspired FM synthesis music.

The font is the work of Style64, a North American demogroup for the Commodore 64 and PC. It’s the same font used for MoeGamer’s logo.

The music, meanwhile, is from MusMus, a site run by a composer from Japan known simply as “watson”, who rather generously releases all his work royalty-free.

I made the interface, because I’m so 1337 pro noscope with Paint.Net. Also that’s why the buttons look a bit shit.

I’m going to aim to release one of these each Monday for at least a little while to see how practical it is. Doubtless they’ll become more ambitious over time. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy Episode 1!
