Waifu Wednesday: Yomi

All right, all right, one more Senran Kagura waifu and then we’re done! DONE, I say! For now, anyway.

I wanted to give Yomi a bit of attention because she’s an immensely likeable character who subverts a lot of expectations and has some interesting backstory.

She particularly shines in Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal’s Hebijo arc, but I can’t pretend her disappearance into the toilet for several Peach Beach Splash missions after drinking too much pool water wasn’t memorable…

We live in an age where remakes and reboots are very popular. Exactly how that came to be is anyone’s guess — improving technology leading creators to believe they can better realise the original intention of a work, presumably — but regardless of the reasoning, here we are.

Senran Kagura, a series which turned eight years old on Sunday, September 22, 2019 — the Sunday just gone at the time of writing — has been no exception to this, with its most recent “mainline” release in the series being Burst Re:Newal, which first hit Japanese shelves in February of 2018, and followed just under a year later in the West.

Burst Re:Newal, as the name suggests, is a reimagining of the first game in the series — or, more accurately, the expanded second release of that first game, Senran Kagura Burst — and it brings the beginning of the saga to a whole new audience. Let’s take a closer look.

Waifu Wednesday: Homura

Homura, leader of the Crimson Squad and former elite shinobi of Hebijo Clandestine Girls’ Academy, has stood out throughout the whole Senran Kagura series, and she’s also a character that has undergone some of the most interesting and significant development over the course of the various games’ narrative arcs.

Whether it’s her early appearances as a strong and seemingly deadly rival to Asuka or her later incarnations as a comedic “genius” trying her best to keep her ragtag “family” of the Crimson Squad together and safe, Homura is a widely beloved character with good reason.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes her… her.

Waifu Wednesday: Yumi

You all seemed to enjoy getting to know MoeGamer site mascot Midori last week, so it’s high time we gave her best friend Yumi the opportunity to introduce herself.

Yumi, like Midori, has been part of MoeGamer since the very beginning in one form or another, and also appeared in the GameCast.

She doesn’t speak a lot of English, however, so Midori will be joining us to assist where necessary. Let’s see how this goes…

Waifu Wednesday: Midori

It occurs to me that in five years of this site being A Thing, I’ve never really gone ahead and actually introduced the site’s mascots Midori, Yumi and Penelope.

I mean, yes, they all played a role in the GameCast project I undertook a while back (and am still keen to return to when I find the time and/or inclination!) but for those who didn’t play through all those episodes, chances are you may be wondering who these random girls who keep showing up on my pages are.

Well, let’s rectify that with a few interviews, shall we? Let’s begin with the site’s lead mascot, Midori.
