Around the Network

Another week comes to a close! I hope you’ve all been having a lovely time. I’ve definitely been having a lovely time as I haven’t been at my day job. Holidays are great.

Anyway. Being on holiday from work doesn’t mean I’ve been on holiday from MoeGamer and Atari A to Z! Quite the opposite, in fact; I’ve been getting all sorts of exciting goodies prepped for the coming weeks and months.

In the meantime, though, let’s take a look at what you might have missed this week.

MoeGamer

Sunday Shooting: Eschatos – Kicking off a new series with a look at a different shoot ’em up each week! We begin with one of my all-time favourites.

The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 19 – Best of Battling – One of my favourite episodes to date, this. Chris and I talk about the latest gaming news and what we’ve been playing before launching into an in-depth and lengthy discussion about our favourite RPG battle systems.

Puzzler Essentials: Take It Easy – I rediscovered a mobile game that isn’t shit this week. Pay once, play forever, no ads, no microtransactions. And it’s actually good! Say it ain’t so.

Warriors Wednesday: Gender Roles – Ginchiyo Tachibana struts her stuff and proves she’s ten times the man you’ll ever be.

Waifu Wednesday: Lucil Filarete – Who loves wispy magical half-elf girls with big honkin’ boobies? Who doesn’tLucil is a highlight of Cover Game Death end re;Quest’s cast.

OMG Zombies: In the Middle of a Chain Reaction – If you thought you’d had enough of blasting zombies, at least take a moment to give this unusual puzzle shooter from Laughing Jackal a shot. It kept me occupied for a good long while!

New Game Plus: Mel Kishida Loves Stinky Feet – Our Atelier Rorona DX New Game Plus run continues with some delightful information about the character designer that, as a fellow enthusiast of Japanese popular media, you may well already know.

Death end re;Quest: Down the Rabbit Hole – Taking a closer look at Death end re;Quest’s ambitious narrative, and the many layers on which it works.

Atari A to Z

I have learned this week that I may well be the only person in existence who didn’t play Ocean’s Batman: The Movie back in the 8- and 16-bit home computer era. I have since rectified that… along with blasting some creepy-crawlies in a Jeff Minter classic and getting worryingly addicted to the infuriating Gravitar.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

I am a proud Patron of Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose, the Cheap Show podcast and The Game Chasers, because all of them put out great content that is worth your support. The Game Chasers are working on a movie, too; be sure to check out their Kickstarter if you’re a fan.

Check out some examples of what these fine folks have been up to here:

And let’s wrap up with a traditional run around the WordPress Reader to check out some posts I’ve enjoyed this week. I haven’t had quite as much time to read everyone’s sites as usual this week as I haven’t been sitting bored at work! Still, I picked out some highlights regardless!

Gears of War Ruined My Rep (The Way I Game) – Duznot has just launched a new site based on his gaming anecdotes from over the years, and his first story is one I’m sure many of us can relate to!

Elgato HD60 PRO PCI Express Capture Card Review (Comma Eight Comma one) – I’m primarily including this because a few people have asked me about capture cards recently, and thedeviot here has put together a nicely comprehensive review of one possible solution. Check it out!

Game Diaries: Final Fantasy VII New Threat Arrange Episode XXVII (Daiyamanga) – Krystallina has been playing through an interesting mod for the original Final Fantasy VII, and here’s the latest episode. If you haven’t been following this, well, there are XXVI episodes to catch up on beforehand, so I hope you have some free time handy because it’s an enjoyable read!

Later Levels: One big oxymoron (Later Levels) – Kim has been thinking! And when Kim thinks, interesting words follow. Inspired by Normal Happenings’ Daily Inkling tags, which are great creative writing prompts if you ever feel the need!

Squids, Screwtapes and Suspicions: How the Daily Inkling Got Its Name (Normal Happenings) – And talking of Daily Inklings… well, here. Here’s why they’re called what they’re called!

As always, thanks so much for your continues support, and I’m looking forward to sharing all sorts of exciting new things with you all very soon. Have a lovely weekend… what’s left of it, anyway!

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve been writing about games in one form or another since the days of the old Atari computers, with work published in Page 6/New Atari User, PC Zone, the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, GamePro, IGN, USgamer, Glixel and more over the years, and I love what I do.
