The MoeGamer Podcast, Episode 35: New Age of Beatdowns

Welcome back to the MoeGamer Podcast! Today we’re continuing our discussion from last time, so please give a warm welcome to… err, me, and, of course, Chris Caskie of MrGilderPixels!

The MoeGamer Podcast is available in several places. You can subscribe to my channel on YouTube to stay up to date with both the video versions of the podcast and my weekly videos (including the Atari A to Z retro gaming series); you can follow on Soundcloud for the audio-only version of the podcast; you can subscribe via RSS to get the audio-only version of the podcast in your favourite podcast app; or you can subscribe via iTunes and listen on Spotify. Please do at least one of these if you can; it really helps us out!

Or you can just hit the jump to watch or listen to today’s episode right here on MoeGamer.

In today’s show, we kick off with some discussion of the recent happenings in the games business, including the first rumblings of a Europe-based distribution centre for Limited Run Games, promising mobile title War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and plenty more exciting upcoming stuff.

We follow that with our usual discussion of what we’ve been playing lately. Chris has been playing Blazing Chrome, while I talk a bit about Strikers 1945, Sol Divide and Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana.

Finally, our main discussion for the day follows on from last episode’s talk of the golden age of beat ’em ups. We look at the transitional period that the Dreamcast era brought about, along with the evolution of the “beat ’em up for the home” for various platforms — taking in games as diverse as Crimson Tears, River City Girls, Double Dragon Neon and Senran Kagura along the way.

As always, thanks for watching and/or listening. If you’re listening on iTunes or Spotify, do please leave us a review — it really helps us out! Hope you enjoy the episode, and we’ll be back soon.
