Hello there everyone! It’s the end of another week, and Monday is looming. Boo, hiss. But after this week I have two weeks off from the day job, yaaaay!
The time off is something of a “staycation” while my wife goes off gallivanting to sunny Nottingham with her Final Fantasy XIV friends, so there will be plenty happening around here and over on YouTube during those weeks. I’m looking forward to getting well ahead of schedule on video series and having plenty of time to prep for all manner of written features on here.
Plus… I have a very special announcement, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what that is. Oooh, teaser. Anyway, let’s see what you might have missed this week.
Sunday Driving: One Last Push – It’s the penultimate episode of Split/Second, and there’s some tough competition ahead of us! Let’s do our best!
SNK Essentials: Sasuke vs. Commander – Another early SNK title, this time one of the first to feature colour graphics… and bosses!
Warriors Wednesday: Not Just a Woman – Having beaten down Orochi twice with the Wu bros, it’s time for Shu to take the spotlight as we begin a new campaign in Warriors Orochi on Xbox 360.
Waifu Wednesday: Shina Ninomiya – The main heroine of the current Cover Game Death end re;Quest is an enjoyable character to spend time with, combining clear intelligence and talent with a healthy dose of empathy and consideration for others.
SNK Essentials: Vanguard – One of SNK’s more well-known early titles — though you may not have known it was SNK if you played the well-regarded Atari 2600 or 5200 versions!
New Game Plus: Ghosts Don’t Have Feet – As our New Game Plus run of Atelier Rorona DX continues, we’re starting to get to a point where we need to check out some of the other playable characters to grind their friendship levels up a bit. Rorona still flattens everyone in one hit though!
Death end re;Quest: The Art of Fighting – The Cover Game feature continues with an in-depth look at Death end re;Quest’s combat mechanics, and how they evolve over the course of the game.
Atari A to Z
Another eclectic mix this week, as we have a spectacular but infuriating racer by one of the creators of the influential RenderWare engine, Ubi Soft’s first ever game and an unusual cooperative two-player top-down racer for the arcade.
Cool Stuff by People Who Aren’t Me
I am, as you may know by now a proud Patron of Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose, the Cheap Show podcast and The Game Chasers, because all of them put out great content that is worth your support. The Game Chasers are working on a movie, too; be sure to check out their Kickstarter if you’re a fan.

Sentinel Returns (Kimimi The Game-Eating She-Monster) – If you like interesting, odd and largely overlooked games and you’re not following Kimimi yet, do yourself a favour and fix that! This time around, she looks at the PlayStation reimagining of legendary weird game (created by Geoff “Formula One Grand Prix” Crammond, no less) The Sentinel.
Leaving Twitter (Wretched and Divine) – Rose left Twitter recently, and she’s not the only one — I know numerous people (including myself) who really can’t be arsed with that place any more. This post and the comments beneath provide some good food for thought if you’ve been considering pulling the plug.
It’s not what you play, it’s who you play it with (Later Levels) – Ben from Later Levels has been playing The Division 2, not because he likes it, but because someone he likes likes it. Have you ever had a game you played less because you enjoyed it and more because it was a means of bonding with friends?
Sonic the Hedgehog: Let’s Talk About Springs (Hundstrasse) – You may recall Hundstrasse’s excellent post about That Window in Resident Evil 2 a while back. Well, he’s back with another brilliantly analytical post, this time considering the physics behind the springs in Sonic the Hedgehog.
