After a mildly chaotic start to the year, we’re back with an all-new podcast, featuring my good self and Mr Chris Caskie of MrGilderPixels!
The MoeGamer Podcast is available in several places. You canΒ subscribe to my channel on YouTubeΒ to stay up to date with both the video versions of the podcast and my weekly videos (including the Atari A to Z retro gaming series); you canΒ follow on SoundcloudΒ for the audio-only version of the podcast; you canΒ subscribe via RSSΒ to get the audio-only version of the podcast in your favourite podcast app; or you canΒ subscribe via iTunesΒ andΒ listen on Spotify. Please do at least one of these if you can; it really helps us out!
Or you can just hit the jump to watch or listen to todayβs episode right here on MoeGamer.
In today’s show, we kick off with a bit of a news catch-up session, taking in discussion ofΒ Little Town Hero, Touhou Spell BubbleΒ and a variety of other recent happenings, including the announcement of the Kickstarter forΒ The Wonderful 101 — and, perhaps most excitingly, considering the main topic of today’s episode, the confirmation that the Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun Retro Brawler BundleΒ is coming West.
Then we take some time to chat about what we’ve been playing recently. Chris has been hooked on Nippon Ichi’sΒ Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock TravellersΒ on Nintendo Switch, while I share some further thoughts onΒ Coffee TalkΒ andΒ 198X,Β as well as talking a bit aboutΒ Croixleur Sigma,Β a game I’ve been enjoying in one form or another since 2013.
Then finally, it’s time for the main event: a discussion of the golden age of beat ’em ups. Our discussion starts with Irem’sΒ Kung-Fu MasterΒ and Datasoft’sΒ Bruce LeeΒ and continues throughΒ Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Final Fight, King of Dragons, Asterix,Β theΒ SengokuΒ series,Β Denjin MakaiΒ and its sequelΒ Guardians before wrapping up with a bit of well-deserved adoration for Capcom’sΒ Dungeons & DragonsΒ games. We’re tapped out at this point, but we’ve got much more to talk about — the beat ’em up has had a bit of a revival in recent years, after all!
As always, thanks for watching and/or listening. And if you have a moment, do please take a moment to leave us a review on iTunes and/or Spotify — it really helps us out. Hope you enjoy the show!
