nail’d: Look Out Below

I love a good racing game. And, while the definition of “good racing game” may vary from person to person, in my case that means “ridiculous, physically improbable and probably fatal things happening in realistic-looking environments”.

I have no interest in an accurate simulation of what it’s like to drive a Rover Metro around Donington Park circa 1987, but present me with the opportunity to fling myself off the side of a quarry on a motorbike going over 200 miles per hour while I admire the ruins of ancient Greece passing majestically by beneath me, and I am 100% there.

As you may have surmised, nail’d falls very comfortably and firmly into this latter category.

Warriors Wednesday: Grand Finale – Warriors Orochi #60

We made it, everyone! After 60 weekly(ish) episodes, we finally made it all the way through Warriors Orochi from start to finish.

The funny thing is that there’s still actually a bunch more of this game I could continue to play if I wanted to, and I might just do that off-camera. There are harder difficulties to challenge, hidden items to discover, weapons to collect and even more characters to unlock.

But for now, this particular “season” of Warriors Wednesday is over. Next week, we’ll be kicking off a look at something a little different: Warriors All-Stars, which brings together characters from a variety of different Koei Tecmo games to save a fantasy world from destruction. Please look forward to it.

And if you’ve watched any or all of this series… a sincere thank you! I hope you enjoyed it. But our job here is far from over!

Glutton for punishment? Watch the whole thing here and admire my gradual progression of confidence in both making videos and editing them!

Warriors Wednesday: Just a Quickie – Warriors Orochi #58

It’s nice when things go your way for once, isn’t it?

In the first instance of that happening for quite some time in this Warriors Orochi playthrough, Cao Pi, Nene and Xiahou Dun all find it remarkably straightforward to struggle their way through Nan Zhong and deal another significant blow to Orochi’s forces.

It’s nice when you get a clear, quick, simple, decisive victory like this, as it’s good motivation to keep going! And there’s not long to go until we are well and truly done, once and for all! We’re coming for you, Orochi… again!

Warriors Wednesday: Filthy Garbage – Warriors Orochi #56

Following his long-expected rebellion against his Crazy Snake Guy overlord, Cao Pi sets out to rescue his wife Zhen Ji from servitude to the Big O.

We’re getting very close to the absolutely, positively, definitely end of Warriors Orochi now! There are just a few more episodes in the Wei campaign left to go, and then we’re done.

Of course, once you’ve played through all the stories once, there’s still a lot to do, including collecting weapons and unique items, levelling up all the characters, challenging harder difficulties… I think this game will keep me busy for quite some time, even long after this “season” of Warriors Wednesday ends!

Warriors Wednesday: Do Not NTR Lu Bu – Warriors Orochi #54

Of all the things you should not do to Lu Bu — and there are many — I’d say that cuckolding him is pretty high up the list, perhaps just underneath pursuing him.

Still, Diao Chan doesn’t seem to be particularly enamoured with his attitude fighting in Orochi’s forces, and so she decides to defect to the Coalition. Naturally, Cao Pi is more than happy to welcome a new ally to the fold.

Of course, as you might expect, a betrayal of one of the most legendarily powerful warriors in existence is not something one can expect to go all that smoothly…

Warriors Wednesday: It’s A Trap… Again – Warriors Orochi #52

You can count on several things in a Warriors game: firstly, that pursuing Lu Bu is usually a bad idea; secondly, that the commander is struggling and that you should assist at once; and thirdly, that “it” is usually a trap.

It’s a trope at this point; if a particular encounter in a Warriors battle feels mysteriously easy, or there don’t seem to be very many enemies around on a suspiciously large map, you can guarantee that something bad is going to happen to your forces at some point. It’s just a matter of when…

And, of course, that’s exactly what happens today, as Cao Pi and friends attempt to seize a strategically advantageous garrison…

Warriors Wednesday: Stoking the Fires of Rebellion – Warriors Orochi #51

Today’s scuffle in the lands of Warriors Orochi sees Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan entering the picture, as Cao Pi does his best to gather the forces required for an effective rebellion.

The two proud warriors, ever loyal to Wei even after they felt its leader had abandoned it, are going to take a bit of convincing, though. And by “convincing”, I mean “poking repeatedly with sharp objects”.

New recruit Zhang He also gets a bit of time to shine. His claw work is beeeeautiful, don’t you know…

Warriors Wednesday: Mystical Ninja – Warriors Orochi #50

Cao Pi and friends have a tough battle ahead of them today: they’re up against Nene and her ninjutsu!

It seems our “hero” is still biding his time before unleashing his inevitable betrayal of Da Ji and Orochi, however, but we get closer and closer with every mission. It’s not a case of if, it’s a case of when.

Oh, and if you ever were wondering what I thought of Japanese denpa group PASSPO, you can find out, exclusively in this, the forty-ninth episode of Warriors Wednesday. Don’t say I never give you anything.

Warriors Wednesday: Heavy Weapon – Warriors Orochi #48

In today’s episode, Cao Pi, Xu Zhu and Xu Huang hit the jungle in an attempt to convince their ally Zhang He that Orochi is a cause worth fighting for.

Of course, with Cao Pi being Cao Pi, he’s up to something. Exactly what isn’t quite clear just yet, but at some point in the very near future, he’s clearly going to strike.

In the meantime, it’s a case of biding his time and at least attempting to look like he’s doing the great serpent’s bidding…

Warriors Wednesday: Overly Ambitious – Warriors Orochi #47

There I was, thinking that things were going a bit too well and things felt a bit “easy” as I started the Wei campaign on Normal difficulty. “Why not try Hard?” I thought.

This, it turns out, was a bit of a mistake. It appears that at the start of this campaign I’m in a bit of a limbo, where having acquired over a hundred levels’ worth of passive abilities in the previous storylines, my characters are now a bit too tough to have any real challenges placed before them on Normal, but not quite tough enough to stand up to the challenges Hard presents them with.

Oh well. At least now we know, eh?
