Warriors Wednesday: The Mail Must Get Through – Warriors Orochi #20

Warriors Orochi is definitely getting easier the further I go through it.

Today’s mission is done and dusted in under 20 minutes — including the obligatory “upgrade and fusion” time before we actually get into the hackin’ and a-slashin’. This is keeping things fun and interesting, however; the sense of “power creep” is very satisfying indeed, and I’m looking forward to seeing how powerful my warriors are by the time I get to the final story campaigns!

For now, hit the jump to see how remarkably smoothly today’s rescue mission went.

Warriors Wednesday: When You Get Around Like I Do, You Pick Up a Thing or Two – Warriors Orochi #19

Sakon Shima has been something of a fixture in the Samurai Warriors series since the second installment.

Typically depicted as a cunning strategist and a powerful warrior in his own right, the real Sakon Shima was an extremely well-regarded and famous samurai. After his original master Junkei Tsutsui met his end, he retired, but after being offered an extraordinarily generous amount of wealth, he decided to return to the fray to serve under Mitsunari Ishida. If someone offers you half of their income to bring you on board, you don’t argue!

Of course, most of this is irrelevant in Warriors Orochi, but Shima still has a significant role to play from the perspective of his formidable strategic skills. Hit the jump to see how he helped out this time around!

Warriors Wednesday: If There Are No Biscuits, There Shall Be Only Death – Warriors Orochi #18

The Wu campaign continues apace as Sun Ce and compatriots attempt to recapture some vital storehouses.

As we all know, an army can’t fight on an empty stomach. And this is just as true in Orochi’s world as it is in our own. As such, when our former Best Boy Mitsuhide Akechi decides to take it upon himself to cut off the Wu forces’ supply lines, there is only one way forward.

Do not stand between Sun Ce and his biscuits.

Warriors Wednesday: Worst Sneak Attack Ever – Warriors Orochi #17

Wu, Wu! That’s the sound of the pain train coming your way, Orochi… just, uh, not just yet.

Sun Ce and friends continue being forced into an uneasy alliance with Captain Snakeypants as people important to them are held hostage. Sun Ce has little choice but to go along with Orochi’s scheming until he and his companions have a suitable opportunity to take matters into their own hands.

That means a whole lot of fighting former friends… as well as fending off possibly the least subtle “sneak attack” in all of history. Hit the jump to see how the battle went.

Warriors Wednesday: Rocket-Launcher Spear – Warriors Orochi #16

It’s time to start a new campaign in Warriors Orochi!

Yes, this week we leave behind the Samurai Warriors in favour of the Wu campaign, although we get to keep all the abilities and whatnot we unlocked over the course of our Samurai adventure.

Wu, it seems, is in cahoots with Orochi — though not by choice. How will Sun Ce and his comrades get out of this one? Hit the jump to find out.

Warriors Wednesday: Samurai Warriors vs Orochi 2 – Electric Lu Bu-Galoo – Warriors Orochi #15

Did you think we were done with the adventures of the Samurai Warriors? Well, nope, we weren’t quite finished…

Today we tackle the final side mission of the Samurai campaign in Warriors Orochi, which culminates in another tough battle against King Snek himself.

Who will prevail? I mean, you know it’s me eventually, but hit the jump anyway and see how this final final battle actually went…

Warriors Wednesday: Samurai Warriors vs Orochi – Warriors Orochi #14

We’ve made it! The final battle… for this campaign, anyway.

Yes, today we reach the climactic final showdown of the Samurai campaign in Warriors Orochi and face the snake god himself in single combat.

Well, okay, we bring along all our friends and pound on him so much he can’t fight back. Even the great warriors of history weren’t above using schoolyard tactics.

Warriors Wednesday: The God of War’s Windmill Blade – Warriors Orochi #13

We’re nearly there! On the Samurai Warriors campaign, that is.

Yes, it’s the penultimate mission of the first phase of our Warriors Orochi playthrough, meaning that next time around we get to wail on ol’ snake boy himself for the first time.

After a bit of off-camera unlocking of passive abilities, things are going pretty well for the crew. Hit the jump to see how today’s mission went.

Warriors Wednesday: The Solid Whack You Can Deliver with Wood – Warriors Orochi #12

Things are getting noticeably more difficult as we approach the conclusion of the Samurai campaign in Warriors Orochi.

Today’s mission sees our intrepid heroes facing off against a selection of powerful foes, including “wild man” Keiji Maeda, who threatens to break Xiao Qiao in half (“but who will put me back together again?!”). But help is at hand in the form of “God of War” Kenshin Uesugi and his longstanding rival, Shingen Takeda’s formidable moustache. And the warrior attached to it, I guess.

How do things go? Hmm… take a look.

Delving into Musou: Warriors Orochi

Regular readers will know that, for a little while now, I’ve been posting videos of my experiences with Warriors Orochi. So I figured it was probably time I wrote about it!

This realisation comes at a good time, as although I’m a significant distance away from beating the game — and I would actually like to try and “beat” it, at least in terms of completing all the missions on Normal once — I feel like I’ve learned quite a bit about how the game as a whole works.

It turns out that despite its apparently simple structure, Warriors Orochi has a formidably addictive metagame. So let’s look into where this game’s long-term appeal comes from.
