Warriors Wednesday: How The Wild Man Does It – Warriors Orochi #26

How DOES The Wild Man do it? Find out in today’s thrilling installment of Warriors Wednesday, as the Wu forces attempt to prove themselves to Keiji Maeda.

If you were looking forward to seeing my smiling face again on this video, apologies to disappoint; I recorded this before I got the new gear necessary to display my smiling face on videos. If, on the other hand, you were disgusted and repulsed by my fearful countenance in Sunday’s Split/Second video, consider this momentary relief.

Hit the jump to see how today’s battle went.

Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland, the thirteenth mainline Atelier game and the third in the Arland series, first released in 2011.

It is a longstanding favourite of many enthusiasts of the series with good reason, and absolutely a suitable high point for the whole trilogy to wrap up on… that is, until Atelier Lulua comes along and confuses everyone by turning it into a quadrilogy! But more on that another time.

Providing some of the most refined mechanics in the Arland subseries along with a satisfying and enjoyable narrative to follow, Atelier Meruru combines elements of classic and more modern Atelier games. The result is a really great game featuring one of the series’ most appealing protagonists. So let’s dive in and take a look!

Warriors Wednesday: Enter Kunoichi – Warriors Orochi #23

The Wu campaign continues as the Sun family comes to blows over the recapture of their father.

In this installment, the Battle of Sekigahara, we retire the ever-reliable Ranmaru Mori for now in favour of newcomer Kunoichi, who turned up in the previous battle. She is joined by Taishi “Prepare to Die” Ci and Lady Nō to form what appears to be a pretty respectable fighting team.

Hit the jump to see how the battle went this time around…

Warriors Wednesday: Robert Miles Presents – Warriors Orochi #21

Today on Warriors Wednesday, we jump into the fourth main story chapter of the Wu campaign in Warriors Orochi.

Today sees Sun Ce finally getting the opportunity to rescue his dear old dad from Snake-Eyes himself… and unfolds partially in the interior of a castle rather than on the usual outdoor battlefields.

It also features a soundtrack that sounds more than a little bit like ’90s trance DJ Robert Miles’ most well-known work Children. (Also did you know Robert Miles died in 2017? I didn’t. Rest in peace, sir.) Hit the jump to watch… and listen!

The MoeGamer Awards 2018: The Evergreen Award

The MoeGamer Awards are a series of “alternative” awards that I’ve devised in collaboration with the community as an excuse to celebrate the games, experiences and fanbases that have left a particular impression on me in 2018. Find out more and leave a suggestion here!

If you’re a gamer on a budget or simply going through a lean month or two, it’s always a good idea to have one or two “evergreen” games on your shelf.

The concept of an “evergreen” game is simple: it’s a game that you can always return to at any time and have an enjoyable experience with. It’s a game you can set aside for weeks or months at a time before returning to when you feel like it, able to pick right back up where you left off.

Evergreen games can involve narrative, but the best ones place a strong focus on mechanics, providing them a pick-up-and play quality coupled with extensive — potentially infinite — longevity. One game that I covered in 2018 definitely fits that bill more than pretty much any other.

And the winner is…

Warriors Wednesday: When You Get Around Like I Do, You Pick Up a Thing or Two – Warriors Orochi #19

Sakon Shima has been something of a fixture in the Samurai Warriors series since the second installment.

Typically depicted as a cunning strategist and a powerful warrior in his own right, the real Sakon Shima was an extremely well-regarded and famous samurai. After his original master Junkei Tsutsui met his end, he retired, but after being offered an extraordinarily generous amount of wealth, he decided to return to the fray to serve under Mitsunari Ishida. If someone offers you half of their income to bring you on board, you don’t argue!

Of course, most of this is irrelevant in Warriors Orochi, but Shima still has a significant role to play from the perspective of his formidable strategic skills. Hit the jump to see how he helped out this time around!

Warriors Wednesday: If There Are No Biscuits, There Shall Be Only Death – Warriors Orochi #18

The Wu campaign continues apace as Sun Ce and compatriots attempt to recapture some vital storehouses.

As we all know, an army can’t fight on an empty stomach. And this is just as true in Orochi’s world as it is in our own. As such, when our former Best Boy Mitsuhide Akechi decides to take it upon himself to cut off the Wu forces’ supply lines, there is only one way forward.

Do not stand between Sun Ce and his biscuits.

Warriors Wednesday: Worst Sneak Attack Ever – Warriors Orochi #17

Wu, Wu! That’s the sound of the pain train coming your way, Orochi… just, uh, not just yet.

Sun Ce and friends continue being forced into an uneasy alliance with Captain Snakeypants as people important to them are held hostage. Sun Ce has little choice but to go along with Orochi’s scheming until he and his companions have a suitable opportunity to take matters into their own hands.

That means a whole lot of fighting former friends… as well as fending off possibly the least subtle “sneak attack” in all of history. Hit the jump to see how the battle went.

Warriors Wednesday: Rocket-Launcher Spear – Warriors Orochi #16

It’s time to start a new campaign in Warriors Orochi!

Yes, this week we leave behind the Samurai Warriors in favour of the Wu campaign, although we get to keep all the abilities and whatnot we unlocked over the course of our Samurai adventure.

Wu, it seems, is in cahoots with Orochi — though not by choice. How will Sun Ce and his comrades get out of this one? Hit the jump to find out.

Warriors Wednesday: Samurai Warriors vs Orochi 2 – Electric Lu Bu-Galoo – Warriors Orochi #15

Did you think we were done with the adventures of the Samurai Warriors? Well, nope, we weren’t quite finished…

Today we tackle the final side mission of the Samurai campaign in Warriors Orochi, which culminates in another tough battle against King Snek himself.

Who will prevail? I mean, you know it’s me eventually, but hit the jump anyway and see how this final final battle actually went…
