Quick Patreon Update

Hello folks, a full post will be following later today but I just wanted to share a quick update with you.

Those of you who have been following me for a while will know that I used to run a daily personal blog that I updated every single day for 2,541 days. I’ve been missing that as a daily activity recently… so I figured why not combine it with what I’m doing now?

Rather than clogging up MoeGamer with personal posts, I’ve decided to make it a Patreon reward. Pledge $1 or more per month and you can not only support my work here on MoeGamer and help keep the lights on, you can also get to know me a bit better via exclusive updates that only you (yes, you! And, err, a few others, but mostly you!) can enjoy.

Drop by my Patreon page to find out more about how your money helps MoeGamer and Atari A to Z, and to sign up for my updates. Thank you in advance for your support!

Hello again, dear reader. Are you ready for Christmas? I’m not. But then it’s only just December, so despite what popular culture and The Shops would have you believe, it’s only just now getting into the Christmas period.

I’ve been working hard to get the Project Zero series done and dusted and I’m pleased and proud to say that it is finally done! This week saw the final installment of the articles about this fascinating and unusual survival horror series, and I’m delighted that I’ve finally taken the time to enjoy it in its entirety — and will be continuing to enjoy its various postgames over the course of the New Game Plus video series.

That now leaves me some free time for the MoeGamer Awards 2018 throughout December — I still want your suggestions, by the way! — as well as the opportunity to get a head start on whatever I’ll be covering next year. Question is… where to begin?

Looking Forward

I’m still beavering away on the fifth Project Zero game to finish off this current (rather longer than anticipated!) Cover Game feature, so I thought now would be a fine time for an update and a look forward to 2019.

In particular, I wanted to highlight (and in some cases reiterate) my plans for the site as a whole, share a few things I’m interested in looking at in detail next year, and hear what you might be most interested in seeing over the course of 2019, too.

So let’s take those things one at a time after the jump!

Around the Network

Hello! Happy Sunday. I was out all day yesterday so I didn’t have time to put together this weekly roundup. Apologies. If you care.

This week has been another fun week, though I’ve still been recovering from my cold and my wife has still been at home recovering from her surgery, so neither of us have quite been operating at full efficiency. I still managed to find some stuff to write about however, so yay for that.

Hit the jump for the weekly roundup of the week’s articles and videos from around my network of sites.

Around the Network

Hello everyone! It’s been a hectic week for me this week, to say the least.

My wife Andie was rushed into hospital with suspected appendicitis early in the week, and then I came down with… something or other as a result of the stress of the whole situation combined with regular visits to A Place Full of Ill People.

Thankfully, Andie’s back home now and I think I’m mostly on the mend… so let’s take a moment to review what’s been going on this week!

Around the Network

It’s been a fun, busy and productive week around the MoeGamer network!

We kicked off the week with a bizarre PS2 driving game and a new episode of The MoeGamer Podcast, continued with a collaborative post in conjunction with Luminous Mongoose of Otaku Essays and Analyses, and wrapped things up with the next installment of the current Cover Game feature: the Project Zero series. And in the lands of Atari, we stormed a Nazi fortress and punched some bad dudes in the fa– wait, that’s something else, isn’t it?

Hit the jump to see what you might have missed this week!

New Year Well-Wishes, and a Look Back on an Interesting 2017

A slightly early “happy new year”, everyone! I was originally going to post this at midnight but figured no-one would actually read it then, so I’m posting it now to go with all the other people posting 2017 roundup threads on Twitter and suchlike.

It’s been an interesting year and, I’m pleased to say, one that has been overall very positive, which is a very nice contrast to the numerous challenges I’ve encountered over the course of… well, probably the last seven years or so, now.

As such, I wanted to make this post a bit of a personal one to look back over the last year, to celebrate the things that went well, and to look forward to what 2018 holds. Regular gaming coverage will continue on Tuesday!

MoeGamer 2.5, and Plans for the Future

MoeGamer turned three years old back at the end of April, and this April also marked a year since the launch of “MoeGamer 2.0”, the current format of the site featuring monthly Cover Games.

You may have noticed a few behind-the-scenes tweaks and pokes over the course of the last week or so, in which case you’re probably wondering what’s going on. (Or perhaps you didn’t notice at all as yet, in which case consider this an official “announcement” of sorts.)

Today I’d like to talk a bit about these new changes, what I’d like to achieve in both the short- and long-term with the site, and unashamedly ask you to continue supporting the site!

MoeGamer: The Third Birthday

Somehow, I only remembered recently that I actually share a birthday with this little corner of the Internet.

Sure enough, if you check the first ever post on here (complete with old-style Midori and Yumi) you’ll see that it was published on April 29, 2014. That’s three full years of this site being in existence, after it launched on my thirty-third birthday. And while it hasn’t been three years of constant content — the regular posting schedule is something I’ve only introduced relatively recently, beginning with the introduction of Cover Games around this time last year — it’s still quite an achievement in the cutthroat world of “writing about games”.

MoeGamer is something I’ve come to do simply because I enjoy it. But it originally came about as a result of the state of the modern mainstream commercial games press — and how apparently there wasn’t a place for someone like me in it any more, despite working in the field having been a lifelong dream.

So let’s look back at how MoeGamer came to be, why it exists now and why it’s important to me personally.

The MoeGamer GameCast: Episode 2

In this episode, Midori, Yumi, Penelope and I talk about whether it’s professional to cover your eyes at the prospect of boobs, one of the most well-received anime in the current season, Steam Greenlight and more.

The GameCast as a whole has had a few minor refinements since Episode 1. Music should now loop properly rather than fading out and starting again every couple of minutes, and I redid the interface buttons I wasn’t happy with.

Music, as before, is by watson of MusMus, and the font is the work of Style64.

Something special coming for Episode 3 that I didn’t have time to implement in this one. Please look forward to it!
