Around the Network

Happy weekend, folks, hope you’re all well. I’m having a bit of a trying time at present to be perfectly honest, but I won’t bore you with that here; remember you can sign up for my daily #oneaday blog on Patreon if you’d like a bit more of “the personal touch”!

Anyway, it’s been a busy week. My own personal issues aside, I’m more than happy with how things are going around these parts. I’ve got some fun videos going out nearly every day of the week now, we’ve got another great episode of The MoeGamer Podcast for you to enjoy, I’m really enjoying the current Cover Game feature and I’m feeling quite inspired for what I might be able to provide some deep-dives into over the course of the next few months.

For now, though, hit the jump to see what you might have missed this week.

I Want Your Help with The MoeGamer Awards 2018!

[Note 02/01/2019: With it now being 2019 at the time of writing, submissions for this are now closed, obviously! Watch out for something similar in late November this year if you have some bright ideas.]

Last year, I devoted December to a series of “alternative awards”, and I’m planning to do the same thing this year.

The MoeGamer Awards provide me with the opportunity to review what we’ve been exploring over the course of the previous year, highlight some things I feel should have had a bit more attention and exposure and just have a bit of fun looking back over the year gone by.

A lot of the fun last year came from the readers getting involved by suggesting awards categories… so if you’d like to give me some ideas this year, read on and leave me a comment with an idea for a 2018 award!

Around the Network

Another week has passed. I won’t lie, I’m still feeling the lingering mental, emotional and physical effects of the last few weeks’ stress… but things are OK-ish for now.

Probably the most exciting thing that has happened is I bought myself yet another little Chinese box to sit under my TV to go with my (surprisingly excellent for the price) upscaler and HDMI splitter (for recording PS3 and PSTV). This one allows me to listen to the TV audio through headphones, which means when I’m recording videos (or streaming, if I ever do that) I can now actually listen to console game sounds instead of just having to turn the audio right down!

You’re hopefully here because you want to know what you might have missed here on MoeGamer and from my other projects this week, though. So hit the jump and we’ll take a look.

The MoeGamer Awards: Best Christmas Present

The MoeGamer Awards are a series of made-up prizes that give me an excuse to celebrate games, concepts and communities I’ve particularly appreciated over the course of 2017. Find out more and suggest some categories here!

Welcome back, and I hope you’ve had a suitably restful Christmas break with good food, good company and, of course, presents.

Today I wanted to highlight a particularly awesome present I received. To be fair, I knew I was getting it well in advance of Christmas, so it wasn’t a surprise or anything, but it’s still awesome. And I somehow doubt I’m the only one to receive such a present this year, either!

And the winner is…

#ExtraLife: Thank You!

My 2017 Extra Life efforts are over and done with, and at the conclusion of my 24-hour stint I’d raised a grand total of $170: not quite as much as I managed last time around, but still pretty respectable!

If you’d still like to make a donation to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in celebration of my marathon, you can still do so here.

And if you missed it, well, you’re in “luck”, because I’ve gone and archived most of the stream for you to enjoy at your leisure! (DISCLAIMER: This is all unedited footage, I have had a cold and tonsillitis and am not very good/confident at streaming. But there are some fun games to see, at least!)

Summer Sale Time Again

Yes, it’s that time of year again when a million credit cards cry out in anguish: the Steam Summer Sale.

So what better excuse to look back over some of the games we’ve discussed here on MoeGamer, and point you in the direction of an opportunity to acquire them at reduced rates? None, that’s right, there’s no better excuse.

Before we kick off, I’ll just take a moment to remind you (or perhaps inform you, if you haven’t been paying attention) that MoeGamer has a Steam Curator page, where I do my best to include all the PC versions of games we talk about here. You can check it out here (or use the link in the left sidebar/down at the bottom if you’re on mobile) — though at the time of writing note that the Steam servers are, as usual, taking a good ol’ pounding at the hands of bargain hunters, so you may have to reload once or twice.

Without further ado then, let’s check out some fun times you can have for considerably less than their normal price, in no particular order. (And if you’re reading this after the sale’s already over… these games are still well worth picking up!)
