Gal*Gun Double Peace was one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve had in my gaming career.

Going into it, I already knew I was going to enjoy the inherently silly concept of “shooting” cute girls with pheromones until they collapsed in a quasi-orgasmic state, but what I wasn’t quite prepared for was the fact that besides the absurd premise, the game was actually both very solid indeed from both mechanical and narrative perspectives. In retrospect, given the developer, this should never have been in any doubt, of course, but it was still nice to discover.

Now, two years later, we’re presented with a sequel: Gal*Gun 2, the third game in the franchise after the Japan-only original and Double Peace, our first encounter with the series in the West. How do you follow those? Well, read on.

Waifu Wednesday: Kurona

We’re about to kick off a month of Gal*Gun 2 funtimes… so what better time to celebrate one HELL of a girl?

Kurona is the antagonist in both Gal*Gun Double Peace and Gal*Gun 2, and a favourite waifu of Matt Papa from developer Inti Creates. It’s not hard to figure out why people find her so appealing… but it’s also interesting to note that she undergoes some fun development between the events of Double Peace and its sequel.

The MoeGamer Podcast: Pilot Episode – Sega, Sega, Sega

I’ve been talking about doing some sort of podcast with my good friend and longtime supporter Chris Caskie for some time… and last weekend we finally got around to it!

After the jump (and on YouTube), you’ll find the pilot episode of a new MoeGamer podcast that will hopefully become a semi-regular thing! How regular it is will depend on the schedules Chris and I keep and whether I can get things edited reasonably quickly, but we’re looking at bi-weekly or monthly rather than weekly right now.

We hope you enjoy the show — we had a blast recording it, I had great fun editing it (even if it took all evening) and we’re already looking forward to recording more!

What’s in the Box: Gal*Gun 2 “Free Hugs” Edition

Next month on MoeGamer is all about Gal*Gun 2, but in the meantime I couldn’t resist sneaking a peek in the shiny new limited edition box.

Publisher PQube and its partners at Rice Digital have put out some really nice (and affordable) limited editions over the last couple of years, so I was more than happy to stump up the extra cash for the “Free Hugs” edition of Gal*Gun 2.

Thankfully the new game doesn’t come in quite as obscenely large a box as its predecessor — that had a big wallscroll in it, so it was understandable — but still has a rather tasty set of goodies to enjoy.
