Sunday Driving: Out With a Bang (Finale)

This is it! This is what it’s all been building up towards: the season finale of Split/Second!

Despite some occasionally questionable performance, I’ve managed to make it to the final episode on the top spot of the Championship table… question is, can I finish the season and maintain my winning position?

Hit the jump to find out how it all ends…

Sunday Driving: Scorching Rubber

Well over the halfway point through Split/Second now, and we’re starting to unlock some of the top-notch cars.

There are still some significant challenges ahead of us, but today’s installment goes strangely smoothly… perhaps it’s down to the amount of gas I fill myself with before getting underway properly.

Whatever the reason, hit the jump to see how things went… and beware of the flatulence.

Atari A to Z: Baja Buggies

You know me, I love an arcade racer. And while the Atari 8-bit era was very much a time where this genre was just starting to define itself, there were still some fun, interesting games to enjoy.

Baja Buggies from Gamestar is a game from the early days of the system that I didn’t play that often back in the day, primarily because it was on cassette, and who has time to sit around waiting for those things when you have a US Doubler-equipped 1050 disk drive for high-speed floppy loading goodness? (Said drive died recently, please raise a glass in memoriam. Thank you.)

Anyway. It’s an interesting racer that eschews the Pole Position timers-and-checkpoints formula in favour of an endurance race format: pass 80 opponents before you wreck your buggy or cross the finish line. The desert awaits!

Sunday Driving: Finale?

We’ve been making good headway through Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed… but today we clear the game!

Or do we…? This is a Sega game in the classic console mould, after all, so it only stands to reason that seeing the end credits isn’t necessarily the end of the experience…

Regardless, today we see the “ending” of the game… and from there we’ll have to decide what to do next!

Sunday Driving: Amy Maxes Out

Ladies, gentlemen and various woodland creatures… start your engines, ’cause it’s time for another installment of Sunday Driving.

We’ve been playing through Sumo Digital’s excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on PC and having a ton of fun along the way. For the uninitiated, this fantastic kart racer is particularly well known for having a superb single-player mode, so for those who have found Mario Kart a bit lacking in this regard over the years… check it out.

Hit the jump for the latest episode.

Today we continue our playthrough of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed’s excellent single-player mode, the World Tour.

We’re starting to get into some of the game’s more unusual events now, so hit the jump to see the latest episode.

Sunday Driving: Scud Racer (Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed)

It’s time for another episode of Sunday Driving and the continuation of Amy’s world tour in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

I noticed the quality on the previous videos was lower than it has been from my previous PC game captures, likely due to the fact that some combination of Windows 10 and/or my switch to SSD has meant that I’ve been having to re-encode captured video to a constant frame rate otherwise I get audio sync issues. This time around I’ve used higher quality settings, so let me know if you notice the difference.
