Sunday Driving: Scud Racer – Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed #3

It’s time for another episode of Sunday Driving and the continuation of Amy’s world tour in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

I noticed the quality on the previous videos was lower than it has been from my previous PC game captures, likely due to the fact that some combination of Windows 10 and/or my switch to SSD has meant that I’ve been having to re-encode captured video to a constant frame rate otherwise I get audio sync issues. This time around I’ve used higher quality settings, so let me know if you notice the difference.

Warriors Wednesday: The Sword That Hits Eight Times – Warriors Orochi #5

It’s time for another romp in Orochi’s less-than-fair lands as Nobunaga and his samurai friends hack and slash their way to another victory.

I, uh, made a small mistake with recording this one in that I accidentally deleted my whole commentary while I was cleaning up my videos folder, so I ended up having to record a new commentary “after the fact”, as it were. I don’t think it came out too badly.

Happy Tuesday! While I prepare something more substantial for your reading pleasure later this evening, I invite you to enjoy the latest installment in my retro gaming side project.

The Atari 8-Bit is the first computer I used growing up, and it’s a platform I still very much enjoy busting out today. It’s somewhat lesser known than its contemporaries, the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum, but it has a great library of games and software.

Today we take a look at a classic (and influential) vertically scrolling shoot ’em up, Caverns of Mars. Enjoy!

Atari A to Z: Bruce Lee

My retro gaming side project delving back into the Atari 8-Bit computers’ extensive catalogue of games continues with this title from Datasoft.

Bruce Lee was an interesting game that included elements of the beat ’em up, platform game and action adventure genres, creating an altogether unique experience at the time that is still fondly regarded today.

I have very fond memories of this game, despite not being all that good at it when I was a kid. Rather than it being fast, chaotic action, it actually rewards somewhat strategic play; taking your time getting through the screens is usually your best bet, and defeating the enemies is also a case of waiting for a good opening to attack them rather than flailing wildly.

The game was developed as an Atari 8-Bit title originally before being ported to a number of other platforms, including Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and MSX. The Atari version is obviously the best, of course, not that I’m biased at all in this regard.

Sunday Driving: Amy’s Hot Wheels – Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed #1

I’m currently deep in editing the next episode of the MoeGamer Podcast, but I managed to find some time to get a new Sunday Driving up.

I’ve had a few computer woes recently with a failing hard drive (probably down to it being about eight years old and getting battered pretty hard with video work) so I upgraded to an SSD (and Windows 10, against my better judgement). In the process I misplaced my Blur save file, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to revisit a favourite Sega game.

Here’s a look at Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed from Sega and Sumo Digital, a game that I enjoy a whole lot more than Mario Kart… in single-player, anyway.

Warriors Wednesday: TFW No Big Tiddy Strategist GF – Warriors Orochi #3

The battles against Orochi’s forces continue as Nobunaga and friends come face to face with a powerful foe.

It’s Da Ji, Orochi’s strategist and a master of disguise. Deceiving the Coalition forces by taking on the appearance of the apparently slain Cao Cao, Da Ji seeks to take control of the battlefield on her own terms.

Nobunaga is not so easily swayed by the formidable charms of a big tiddy strategist gf, however, although he does take a bit of a kicking a couple of times before figuring out the best way to deal with the situation. Hit the jump to see how that all went.

Atari A to Z: Aztec Challenge

Despite technically being “on holiday” I’ve managed to fill today up completely to such a degree that I haven’t had time to finish a full article for MoeGamer as yet, and I’m about to go out for the evening. Consequently, you can expect an article later (late!) tonight when I get back.

In the meantime, please enjoy the beginning of this new side project exploring the library of the Atari 8-bit line of computers from A to Z and back again. New episodes are coming every Tuesday, so watch out for them either here or over on YouTube.

This isn’t technically part of MoeGamer’s remit, such as it is, but it is nonetheless a retro gaming project I have been working on, so I thought I’d share it here in case anyone is interested!

Warriors Wednesday: Know Your Place – Warriors Orochi #2

The battles continue in Warriors Orochi as Nobunaga and friends attempt to rescue some peasants from a fate worse than death. Or just, you know, death.

I’ve been having a real blast with Warriors Orochi so far, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the series develops over time. The prospect of the upcoming Warriors Orochi 4 incorporating elements of Greek mythology is tremendously exciting to me, but I’m having fun with the Chinese and Japanese heroes in the meantime.
