Around the Network

Good evening! I hope you’ve all had a pleasant weekend. It’s been pretty relaxed around here — I got a few videos done, but for the most part it’s been pretty chilled out.

I have some significant life changes coming up next week that hopefully won’t affect the stuff I’m doing here on MoeGamer and YouTube — it’s unlikely to, but just wanted to mention it just in case posting is a bit sporadic for whatever reason! Not in a position to be able to talk further about it right now, but suffice to say for now that it is a good life change. More soon. Perhaps.

Anyway, mysterious teases aside, there is a review of the week to deliver! So hit the jump and let’s check out what you might have missed.

MoeGamer

The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 46 – A Brave New Year – 2021 is here at last after the ordeal that was 2020, so Chris and I take some time to talk about the games we’re excited to check out in the coming 12 months.

Nekopara Vol. 4: The Smiles on Everyone’s Faces – The fourth volume of the excellent Nekopara series of kinetic novels gives protagonist Kashou some time in the spotlight as he attempts to deal with the conflict at the core of his being.

short;Play: Tee Off – I love me a fun arcadey golf game, and one of the first ones I played was this fun Dreamcast title.

Waifu Wednesday: Ayesha Altugle – It’s Atelier Ayesha time, so ahead of our first exploration of her game, it’s time to celebrate everyone’s favourite floofy alchemist.

Rod Land: A Personal Story – Rod Land came out on PS4 and Switch this week, marking the first time it’s had a home release since the 16-bit micro days. I share a story about why this game specifically is so important to me.

Evercade A to Z: Galaxian – Namco’s slow-paced shooter rewards those who take their time and think about what they’re doing. It’s quite an adjustment!

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk – Chromatic Shift – We begin our look at the popular Dusk subseries of Atelier by checking out how Atelier Ayesha walks that fine line between complete reinvention and remaining authentic to its predecessors.

Atari A to Z

This week we have a tricky arcade adventure, the official video game of a bag of crisps, and yet more Atari sports games.

Don’t forget that over on Patreon I post a daily behind-the scenes personal blog that is, effectively, a resurrection of my old #oneaday blog I used to host over at angryjedi.wordpress.com. If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, be sure to sign up; just £1 a month (about $1.50) can get you in the club, and it also provides you with access to the MoeGamer Discord as well as helping to fund and support the things I do here on the site. S-Rank (£5+ a month) Patrons also get to play a part in the monthly Q&A video!

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

First up, Patreon goodness! Right now, I’m supporting Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose’s creative endeavours on the Digitiser YouTube channel, the ever-grumpy (and always hilarious) Cheap Show Podcast, gaming and gaming culture commentator Liana Kerzner, fountain of retro computer gaming knowledge Rob “Hellfire64” Caporetto, blogger/YouTuber meggsngrits and TangoPunk, the newest zine on the block, all of whom you can find out a bit more about by clicking through to their profiles.

Here’s a selection of YouTube and podcast goodness from several of this lot:

And to wrap up, let’s take a quick spin around the WordPress community to see what people have been up to!

I Missed You (100 Word Anime) – Karandi’s been absent for quite some time, but now she’s back! Stop by and give her a warm welcome back.

Yomu’s Top 10 Ecchi Anime Demi-Humans! (Ecchi Hunter) – Who doesn’t love a good demi-human? Yomu shares ten favourites.

On Becoming a VTuber (ARCHI-ANIME) – heyitszel shares her story of stepping into the digital realm and finding a face to present to the world.

Nekopara Volume 2: Here Pussy, Pussy, Pussy (Shallow Dives in Anime) – Dewbond checks out the second volume of the Nekopara series to find out what’s up with Coconut and Azuki.

Writing as a Stress Reliever (Mechanical Anime Reviews) – Scott says something I’ve always known — but which I also know plenty of other people would benefit from taking to heart. If you’re troubled, get those thoughts down on paper!

And that’s your lot for this week. Hope the rest of your weekend is pleasant and that you’ve settled back into the mundanity of everyday life after the holiday season. Not that most of us had the opportunity to go anywhere, given the state of things!

One day this will all be over; for now, stay strong and keep playing video games!
