Around the Network

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a restful holiday season and found yourself with some nice gifts… or at least some nice vouchers or cold, hard cash with which to treat yourselves!

With the world being as it is, we had a pretty quiet Christmas here, but it was still nice. We opened presents, had a nice dinner and then just chilled out for the rest of the day. Exactly what a good Christmas should be, so far as I’m concerned — no stress, no arguments, no rushing around, and lots of Sega Dreamcast.

There’s still been stuff happening on the site and over on YouTube, though, so let’s take a look at what you might have missed this week!

Don’t forget that over on Patreon I post a daily behind-the scenes personal blog that is, effectively, a resurrection of my old #oneaday blog I used to host over at angryjedi.wordpress.com. If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, be sure to sign up; just £1 a month (about $1.50) can get you in the club, and it also provides you with access to the MoeGamer Discord as well as helping to fund and support the things I do here on the site. S-Rank (£5+ a month) Patrons also get to play a part in the monthly Q&A video!

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

First up, Patreon goodness! Right now, I’m supporting Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose’s creative endeavours on the Digitiser YouTube channel, the ever-grumpy (and always hilarious) Cheap Show Podcast, gaming and gaming culture commentator Liana Kerzner, fountain of retro computer gaming knowledge Rob “Hellfire64” Caporetto, blogger/YouTuber meggsngrits and TangoPunk, the newest zine on the block, all of whom you can find out a bit more about by clicking through to their profiles.

Here’s a selection of YouTube and podcast goodness from several of this lot:

And as always, we wrap up with a look around the WordPress reader to see what everyone else has been writing about in the run-up to Christmas — if they’ve had time to do anything, of course!

Teaching in Japan Stories #3 (Umai Yomu Anime Blog) – Yomu shares some stories from the chalkface in Japan.

Japan’s Fried Chicken Christmas Tradition (I drink and watch anime) – Irina delves into one of the most notorious Japanese Christmas traditions.

Uplifting Games to Get You Through the Holidays (Blerdy Otome) – For all the joy that Christmas can bring, it can sometimes be an oddly stressful or even depressing time. Pokeninja90 has some suggestions for games to take your mind off everything over the holidays!

Could This Be My Last Vita Game Ever? (daiyamanga.com) – There’s always a lot of speculation over what will be the last game “ever” for a particular platform. Krystallina ponders what will likely be one of the last games for Sony’s Vita.

Top 5 Sonic the Hedgehog Cutscenes (Matt Doyle Media) – We love a bit of Sonic around here, we do, so it’s always nice to see other people having fun with the blue blur — even if the absence of “cattywampus” on this list is keenly felt. Arr.

And that’s that! The next Around the Network will be in 2021, so I’d like to take this opportunity to say thanks for all your support in 2020, and I hope the stuff I do has helped take your mind off at least some of the nonsense going on in this cursed year that belched forth from the very depths of Satan’s ringpiece.

There are exciting times ahead in 2021 for all of us, so I hope you’re all getting an opportunity to rest and relax for a day or two at least. Me? I’m off to go play some Sega Dreamcast games and cross my fingers my OG Xbox will arrive tomorrow! Have a lovely holiday season.
