Around the Network

Good evening everyone! I’ve just finished editing a monster episode of The MoeGamer Podcast, which should be with you tomorrow assuming my computer doesn’t explode overnight while rendering or anything.

I joke, but on more than one occasion I have come downstairs of a morning to discover my computer had forgotten what these mysterious things called “hard drives” or “Microsoft Windows” were, so I probably shouldn’t tempt fate. Anyway, all being well, there will be a podcast for your eyes and ears to enjoy tomorrow.

In the meantime, let’s look back at what you might have missed this week.

TangoPunk: The Zine Scene is Alive and Well – Enthusiast publications rock! Tango, creator of TangoPunk, was kind enough to send me an episode of her new zine to check out, and I enjoyed it a lot. You should take a look and throw your support behind it if you fancy!

Exploding Fist: The Way Fightin’ Used to Be – We continue exploring the Evercade’s launch lineup with a look at Exploding Fist, a previously unreleased NES port of a classic one-on-one fighting game from the earliest days of the genre.

short;Play: Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game – The clue’s in the name. This is a ton of fun from Sega, and still enjoyable even though the real games never happened!

Waifu Wednesday: Totooria Helmold – We’re on to Atelier Totori in the Atelier MegaFeature right now, so it makes all of the sense to celebrate Totori herself, no?

Nurse Love Syndrome: Nearest and Dearest – A first look at Kogado Studio’s visual novel Nurse Love Syndrome — which, it turns out, is a very strong contrast from Nurse Love Addiction!

Evercade A to Z: Star Luster – I love Star LusterCome forth, and lust for Star Luster with me.

Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland – Following the Footsteps – Atelier Totori is recognisable as a follow-up to Atelier Rorona, but at the same time it does lots of things in new, exciting and different ways. In this part of the Atelier MegaFeature, we look at its overall structure and mechanics.

Atari A to Z

This week we have one of the weirdest games on Atari 8-bit, yet another very late arcade port for Atari ST, and one of the more ambitious, late-era games for 2600.

Don’t forget that over on Patreon I post a daily behind-the scenes personal blog that is, effectively, a resurrection of my old #oneaday blog I used to host over at angryjedi.wordpress.com. At the present time, this also includes exclusive patrons-only weekly vlogs and Let’s Plays at the weekends! If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, be sure to sign up; just $1 a month (about 80p) can get you in the club, and it also provides you with access to the MoeGamer Discord as well as helping to fund and support the things I do here on the site.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

First up, Patreon goodness! Right now, I’m supporting Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose’s creative endeavours on the Digitiser YouTube channel, the ever-grumpy (and always hilarious) Cheap Show Podcast, gaming and gaming culture commentator Liana Kerzner, independent games writing collective The Well-Red Mage, fountain of retro computer gaming knowledge Rob “Hellfire64” Caporetto, blogger/YouTuber meggsngrits and TangoPunk, the newest zine on the block, all of whom you can find out a bit more about by clicking through to their profiles.

Here’s a selection of YouTube and podcast goodness from several of this lot:

And as always, let’s wrap up with a look around the WordPress Reader to see what the rest of the community has been up to in the last week!

Why are you embarrassed? (Umai Yomu Anime Blog) – Yomu posts some interesting reflections on the idea of finding something “cringe” — and the broader concept of how embarrassment can hold us back.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars: Hell Yes To This Collection (Professional Moron) – Mr. Wapojif posts one of the few articles about this collection on the Internet that isn’t whining about emulation or whatever.

Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! (Season One) (The Otaku Author) – Lynn Sheridan provides a roundup of the first season of that anime that made all the people you don’t want to talk to on Twitter really mad.

A cyberpunk gothic (Kimimi the Game-Eating She-Monster) – Amiga? Cyberpunk? Vampires? Twelve floppy disks? Sign me up. Kimimi takes us on a tour.

Castle Ravenloft (Raistlin0903) – As part of his countdown to Halloween, Raistlin explores the Dungeons & Dragons board game Castle Ravenloft, one of my favourite dungeon crawlers that I used to enjoy playing back in the Before Times.

And that’s your lot for this week. Hope you enjoy the podcast tomorrow — do enjoy what’s left of your weekend and, as always, thanks for all your support.
