Around the Network

Happy weekend to you all! I hope you’re doing well. I’m having real trouble shaking off the illness I came down with in my week off; if anything it’s got worse.

Still, at least I’m not so incapacitated that I can’t enjoy some games or write about them, so I should be thankful for small mercies! And I had the foresight to get a whole bunch of videos prepared during that week off, so that hasn’t been a worry either. Hooray!

But you’re not hear to hear about my coughing, spluttering and general old man noises. You’re here to find out what you might have missed in the last week, so let’s take a look at just that!

Doom on Switch Doesn’t Suck Any More – Well, it doesn’t! In fact it’s really frigging good now. Props to Bethesda for making things right in the best way possible.

Red Bow: Older Than Water, Stubborn as Stone – Do you think everyone deserves a second chance? That’s the question that the latest short-form psychological horror game from Stranga Games ponders.

Warriors Wednesday: The Truth Hurts (Warriors All-Stars #14) – In this week’s episode of Warriors All-Starswe start to get some hints of what Setsuna is really up to… but can Arnice, Kasumi and the rest of the gang trust him after these new revelations?

Waifu Wednesday: Marie Rose – A relatively recent addition to the Dead or Alive cast, Marie Rose proved immediately popular for reasons that are probably obvious. In case they aren’t, we take a closer look at this wicked lil’ servant.

CocoPPa Dolls: I’m a Pretty Princess – Everyone and their dog is enjoying Arknights, the new game from Azur Lane publisher YoStar. Meanwhile, I decided to take a look at an altogether different mobile game that also launched recently… and I’m having a lot of fun!

Final Fantasy Marathon: The Dreadnought Factor (Final Fantasy II #4) – In this week’s episode of Final Fantasy II, Firion and company put last week’s intensive training to the test as they assault the Empire’s superweapon, the Dreadnought.

LAMUNATION!: Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves – Our Cover Game feature on the unusual, chaotic, comedic visual novel LAMUNATION! continues with a look at Iris and Rayla’s route. Expect cola, incest and rising property prices. Sounds like a party!

Atari A to Z

This week we have an all-time classic shoot ’em up for Atari 8-bit, an unusual twist on pool for Atari ST, and a rough approximation of football for Atari 2600.

Patreon and SubscribeStar

Don’t forget that over on Patreon I post a daily behind-the scenes personal blog that is, effectively, a resurrection of my old #oneaday blog I used to host over at angryjedi.wordpress.com. At the present time, this also includes exclusive patrons-only weekly vlogs and Let’s Plays at the weekends! If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, be sure to sign up; just $1 a month (about 80p) can get you in the club, and it also provides you with access to the MoeGamer Discord as well as helping to fund and support the things I do here on the site.

I’m also in the process of getting SubscribeStar rolling for those who don’t wish to or aren’t able to use Patreon for whatever reason — I’ve had a few requests for this, so I thought I’d actually get it done. Once that’s up and running and some people have signed up, I’ll offer all the same benefits there for the same price as Patreon.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

First up, Patreon goodness! Right now, I’m supporting chaotic “old men attempt to talk about games, usually fail” collective Digitiser 2000, the ever-grumpy (and always hilarious) Cheap Show Podcast, gaming and gaming culture commentator Liana Kerzner, independent games writing collective The Well-Red Mage, fountain of retro computer gaming knowledge Rob “Hellfire64” Caporetto and blogger/YouTuber Megan Marie, all of whom you can find out a bit more about by clicking through to their profiles. (Megan isn’t officially launching her page until early February, but I’m sure she wouldn’t complain at some early Patronage to get her started!)

Here’s a selection of YouTube and podcast goodness from several of this lot:

And you should also be keeping an eye on Normal Happenings this year, since they’re playing host to an ambitious collaborative blogging project that I’m a part of: The Characters That Define Us! This week, we’ve seen a fine exploration of Master Chief from Halo by Hear Dave Write… and an accompanying Super Mario Maker 2 course for those who want to take their enjoyment to a whole other level. Thanks to Matt for all his hard work on this awesome collab.

And, as usual, let’s take a quick trip around the WordPress Reader to wrap things up today.

The Gutenberg WordPress Block Editor – An Update (Umai Yomu Anime Blog) – We bloggers don’t like change. So when WordPress comes along and promises a whole new way to compose posts, we get skeptical. Yomu’s been putting WordPress’ new editor through its paces… how is it?

Please Stop Teaching Me Things – First Impressions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Adventure Rules) – Robert Ian Shepard discovers the downside of jumping into a complex series with its third installment: information overload!

“You want STARS? I’ll give you STARS!” (Kimimi the Game-Eating She-Monster) – Kimimi does what she does best and brings us probably the most in-depth, comprehensive, analytical article about Resident Evil 3 you’ll ever read.

Swing Out Sisters: Salt and Pepper (Shallow Dives in Anime) – Dewbond’s watching hentai again… this time with a popular title that I know a fair few people are rather fond of.

Deep Reads #2.2: Nippon Ichi’s Netherworld Vacation (Everything is bad for you) – AK’s “Deep Reads” series is getting thoroughly underway with some excellent articles about the Disgaea series.

And that’s your lot for this week! Hope you have a better weekend than I’ve had so far. I’m presently filling myself with drugs, Pringles and coffee in the hope of feeling a bit better shortly. Here’s hoping it works.

Thank you as always for all your support, and I’ll see you in the week!

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve been writing about games in one form or another since the days of the old Atari computers, with work published in Page 6/New Atari User, PC Zone, the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, GamePro, IGN, USgamer, Glixel and more over the years, and I love what I do.

  1. Thanks for the mention, and hope you feel better soon. Coffee is a good cure for just about anything, in my extremely non-medical-expert opinion.
