Around the Network

Good evening everyone! I hope you’ve had a pleasant weekend and have got all your Christmas shopping done.

I got sorted a long time ago thanks to the wonder of Amazon. Ahh, remember the good old days when we had to brave holiday season town centres to pick up presents we weren’t sure people actually wanted? I do, and that is one piece of the past I’m in no particular hurry to return to, as nostalgic as I can be at times!

Anyway. Business continues as usual here on MoeGamer even in the run-up to the holidays, so let’s check out what you might have missed!

MoeGamer

I’m going to start doing more “readings” of articles from MoeGamer over on YouTube, as this gives people who don’t come over here much the chance to enjoy some of the things I write about, and will perhaps make a few “YouTube-only” people aware of the site! Anyway, I spent a bit of time this weekend oiling up the ol’ vocal cords and editing chops and this was the result:

Expect more of these in the new year — I’d ideally like to get at least one out a week, probably on Sunday or Monday.

Anyway. Articles!

The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 32 – Catch Me If You Can – We reconvene after a short break to talk about monster-catching games… but perhaps not the ones you might be thinking of! (Okay, we’ve both been playing Pokémon too, but still.)

The MoeGamer 2019 Awards: Best Character Arc – Which character had the most interesting, best, most affecting arc this year? There were a few possibilities, but one clear winner.

Editorial: Supporting the Little Guys – After recent allegations of plagiarism levelled at Niche Gamer plus One Angry Gamer being his usual racist, homophobic self, I thought it important to highlight that you should still support the little guys who are Doing It Right.

Warriors Wednesday: Barking Up the Wrong Tree – Darius thinks he has a shot with Arnice. We all know much better.

The MoeGamer 2019 Awards: The “That Was Unexpected” Award – Which game came out of absolute nowhere and ended up being an all-time favourite? Y’never know how much I love you…

The MoeGamer 2019 Awards: Ten Years, Ten VNs – It’s the end of a decade! So let’s see if we can think of an excellent visual novel for every year from 2010 to 2019, shall we?

Final Fantasy Marathon: The Labyrinth of Time – One more endgame challenge to go before we finish this bad boy just in time for the end of the year! And it’s a doozy…

Pokémon Sword and Shield: The People of Galar – Pokémon may be a series about adorable fighting monsters… but it’s also a series about people. Who left an impact on me during my adventures around Galar?

Atari A to Z

Racing cars, suicidal rodents and Tom Selleck smashing his balls around the place… it sure has been a hell of a week in Atari-land!

Don’t forget that over on Patreon I post a daily behind-the scenes personal blog that is, effectively, a resurrection of my old #oneaday blog I used to host over at angryjedi.wordpress.com. At the present time, this also includes exclusive patrons-only weekly vlogs on Saturdays! If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, be sure to sign up; just $1 a month (about 80p) can get you in the club, and it also provides you with access to the MoeGamer Discord as well as helping to fund and support the things I do here on the site.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

First up, Patreon goodness! Right now, I’m supporting chaotic “old men attempt to talk about games, usually fail” collective Digitiser 2000, the ever-grumpy (and always hilarious) Cheap Show Podcast, gaming and gaming culture commentator Liana Kerzner, independent games writing collective The Well-Red Mage and fountain of retro computer gaming knowledge Rob “Hellfire64” Caporetto, all of whom you can find out a bit more about by clicking through to their profiles.

Here’s a selection of YouTube and podcast goodness from several of this lot:

And as usual, to wrap things up, let’s take a look around the WordPress Reader to see some things that caught my eye this week!

Butt kicking for goodness! (Kimimi the Game-Eating She-Monster) – Kimimi has finally figured out Baldur’s Gate, and now there’s no stopping her.

Have I Been Isekaied? Starting from Zero (The Otaku Author) – Lynn is having a fresh start, beginning right now! Go support his latest efforts!

I Try Not to Write Negative Reviews (Mechanical Anime Reviews) – Scott pretty much nails the attitude I try to take here on MoeGamer, which is to explore the things that various works do well or that are interesting, rather than tearing them down for things that are supposedly “bad”.

‘Tis the Season for Stuff (I drink and watch anime) – As a lover of “stuff”, this post from Irina very much resonated with me.

My Games of the Decade (Lethargic Ramblings) – Everyone’s at it! And it’s much more interesting to read individual opinions on this subject, such as this great post from Leth, rather than moaning about boring old corporate award shows.

And there you have it. Just a few days to go until Christmas now; if you’re at work right up until the last minute like I am, my sympathies. We can make it through this!

If you’re fortunate enough to have some time off for the holidays, I hope you have a wonderfully restful break, and thank you, as always, for all your support over the last year and beyond.

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve been writing about games in one form or another since the days of the old Atari computers, with work published in Page 6/New Atari User, PC Zone, the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, GamePro, IGN, USgamer, Glixel and more over the years, and I love what I do.
