The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 31 – Everything Old is New Again

Howdy, howdy, howdy and a warm welcome once again to The MoeGamer Podcast, featuring me and my good friend Chris Caskie of MrGilderPixels.

The MoeGamer Podcast is available in several places. You can subscribe to my channel on YouTube to stay up to date with both the video versions of the podcast and my weekly videos (including the Atari A to Z retro gaming series); you can follow on Soundcloud for the audio-only version of the podcast; you can subscribe via RSS to get the audio-only version of the podcast in your favourite podcast app; or you can subscribe via iTunes and listen on Spotify. Please do at least one of these if you can; it really helps us out!

Or you can just hit the jump to watch or listen to today’s episode right here on MoeGamer.

In today’s episode, we follow our usual three-part format, kicking off with a look at the news. It’s been a fairly quiet couple of weeks, but there are still a bunch of interesting things to talk about — including a rare sighting of some Xbox news!

For our “What We’ve Been Playing” segment, both Chris and I go about as mainstream as you’ll ever see us go, with discussions of Death Stranding and Pokémon Sword and Shield.

And finally, our main topic of the day is the matter of “homage” games — games which go beyond just a simple pixel art and chiptune aesthetic in order to pay tribute to classic games, series and genres from over the years. We take in a variety of modern games that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of what made their inspirations great, including Freedom Planet, Cave Story, Kero Blaster, Satazius, Oniken, Joylancer and Oceanhorn.

As always, thank you for your continued support! Please do subscribe via any of the above services, leave us a review and share any episodes you’ve found particularly enjoyable — it really helps us out!

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve been writing about games in one form or another since the days of the old Atari computers, with work published in Page 6/New Atari User, PC Zone, the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, GamePro, IGN, USgamer, Glixel and more over the years, and I love what I do.
