Around the Network

Hello everyone! It’s the end of another week, and time for a roundup of what’s been going on.

I’m really enjoying Bullet Girls Phantasia, and as I’ve previously noted it looks like there’s a lot more to it than I initially anticipated. What I might do is finish the main story in order to write about it, then continue to explore it in a resurrected New Game Plus video series, because I kinda want to keep going with it!

Anyway. That’s a discussion for another day. For now, let’s check out what you might have missed recently…

MoeGamer

Freedom Planet: Platforming Perfection – I’m mildly obsessed with this game at the moment having finally started playing it with the Limited Run packaged release for Switch. And with good reason!

Bullet Girls Phantasia: Enlisting for Duty – The first of what will be several articles about Bullet Girls Phantasia, this time focusing on the main mechanics and progression of the game.

Waifu Wednesday: Kasumi – My favourite Dead or Alive girl takes the spotlight this week — at least partly due to our encounter with her in Warriors Wednesday!

Warriors Wednesday: Kasumi’s Arrival – And here she is! Arnice and friends encounter the brave kunoichi fighting for her life against the otherworldly forces…

Real Neat Blog Award – Lumi from Lumi Reviews Things was kind enough to nominate me for one of these community awards, and they always provide a fun opportunity to talk about a random selection of things, so here we go!

Final Fantasy Marathon: The Party Leader Has Registered You for Duty – We’re nearly ready to beat Final Fantasy I, but before that there are endgame dungeons to go and do! Let’s get cracking!

Rolling Thunder 2: Leila Takes the Lead – Not quite as well known as its predecessor, Rolling Thunder 2 offers more of the same distinctive stealth action, this time with considerably enhanced graphics and one hell of a pair of heels.

Atari A to Z

This week we’ve got a dodgy platformer for Atari 8-bit, a decent racing sim for Atari ST and an adaptation of a classic board game for 2600.

Don’t forget that over on Patreon I post a daily behind-the scenes personal blog that is, effectively, a resurrection of my old #oneaday blog I used to host over at angryjedi.wordpress.com. At the present time, this also includes exclusive patrons-only weekly vlogs on Saturdays! If you’d like to get to know me a bit better, be sure to sign up; just $1 a month (about 80p) can get you in the club, and it also provides you with access to the MoeGamer Discord as well as helping to fund and support the things I do here on the site.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

First up, Patreon goodness! Right now, I’m supporting chaotic “old men attempt to talk about games, usually fail” collective Digitiser 2000, the ever-grumpy (and always hilarious) Cheap Show Podcast, the wonderfully supportive Normal Happenings, gaming and gaming culture commentator Liana Kerzner, independent games writing collective The Well-Red Mage and fountain of retro computer gaming knowledge Rob “Hellfire64” Caporetto, all of whom you can find out a bit more about by clicking through to their profiles.

Here’s a selection of YouTube and podcast goodness from several of this lot:

And, of course, as always, a few highlights from around the WordPress blogger network this week to wrap things up:

I Have an N64 and I Don’t Know What to Do With It (Hundstrasse) – I’m sure you have a few good ideas as to what Hundstrasse can do with this shiny new toy, however, so why not go help out with some suggestions in the comments?

Deep Reads #1: Over the Top, Part 1 (Kaiji) (Everything is bad for you) – AK kicks off his new “Deep Reads” series with a look at the classic, super-dark gambling anime Kaiji, and highlights many of the reasons why this work is so incredibly engaging and memorable.

The Beauty of the Atelier Dusk Trilogy (Alchemist of Blogging) – Alice gives us the lowdown on this series of games that has become incredibly important to her over the years. And hey; they’re getting a rerelease on modern platforms in January of next year! Expect some coverage here on MoeGamer…

AdventureX 2019: a round-up (Later Levels) – Kim attended the event AdventureX recently and has been providing a bunch of reports from the various talks she went to. Here’s a roundup of the event as a whole; check out the rest of Later Levels for more detailed insights from the specific talks.

Standards aren’t universal (Lethargic Ramblings) – Leth, like me, has pretty strong opinions on this subject, and he communicates them very well in this piece. Like what you like and be proud of it… balls to what anyone else thinks!

And finally, a hearty welcome back to Nyan, who has been through a terrifying experience at death’s door and chronicled how this, at least indirectly, brought them back to blogging. Please go read their remarkable story and welcome them back to the fold!

And that’s your lot for this week. I’m off to go and get some flea treatment for my poor infested kitty, then record some videos, make some wallpapers and perhaps I might even find some time to play some games too, you never know!

Oh, also, I’ve got a fiction book out. Check out the Bookstore page for a link to check it out and buy a copy if you’re interested in such things!

Thank you, as always, for all your support, whether it’s through likes and comments here on WordPress, shares on social media or direct financial support via Patreon, Ko-Fi or PayPal. Every little helps, and is extremely appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend and I’ll see you soon.

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve been writing about games in one form or another since the days of the old Atari computers, with work published in Page 6/New Atari User, PC Zone, the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, GamePro, IGN, USgamer, Glixel and more over the years, and I love what I do.
