Around the Network

Happy weekend! And happy holidays to me!

Yes, for the next week I’m officially on holiday from the day job, and the wife and I are taking a nice trip to Center Parcs to rest, relax and possibly look at some owls. In the meantime, though, I have some videos queued up to post over on YouTube over the course of the next week, and I’m going to get at least some articles written while I’m away.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves, aren’t we? Let’s see what you might have missed in the last week or so!

The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 24 – The Obligatory E3 Podcast – Joe Sigadel (Erichannel on Twitch) joins me and Chris for a breakdown of what we found interesting or noteworthy at this year’s E3.

Kotodama – The 7 Mysteries of Fujisawa: Stripping Away Deceit – PQube Games just released the first game it produced itself rather than just localising a Japanese title. And it’s good, blending a compelling mystery visual novel with delightful puzzle action.

Warriors Wednesday: I’m On Fire Today – Not long to go until the grand finale of the Shu campaign now! Zhurong sets out to rescue the peasants from Orochi’s oppression.

Waifu Wednesday: Yukino Tsubaki – PQube’s Kododama has a delightful cast of characters, so let’s take a look at one of my favourites.

Delving Into Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest #3 – They said it couldn’t be done! (Well, one person told me it couldn’t be done.) But I finished it! I beat Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest! With the worst ending, admittedly, but it totally counts.

Namco Essentials: Libble RabbleIn a rare example of Polygon doing some actual journalism instead of spending their days counting the number of black people in role-playing games, the publication revealed that the upcoming Astral Chain for Nintendo Switch was inspired by an obscure old Namco arcade game. And you know me and obscure old arcade games…

This week we’ve got two games from my youth and one that’s relatively new to me. Time to blast some Commies, race some old rally cars and jump out of lots of planes!

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

I am a proud Patron of Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose, the Cheap Show podcast and The Game Chasers, because all of them put out great content that is worth your support. The Game Chasers are working on a movie, too; be sure to check out their Kickstarter if you’re a fan.

Check out some examples of what these fine folks have been up to here:

I’m also a Patron of fellow blogger and consistent ray of positivity Matt over at Normal Happenings, and I’m pleased to remind you all that I’m going to be part of his latest collaborative project: The Characters That Define Us. This will be unfolding throughout the entire year of 2020, and will consist of 52 bloggers from the community highlighting 52 amazing characters from the world of video games.

Check out Matt’s Twitter for the full details of who’s doing what, and further details will follow soon!

So let’s delve into the WordPress reader and see what my good friends and comrades have been up to over the last week or so:

The Longest Day for Gaming (Later Levels) – Kim ponders how she would spend the longest day of the year (just passed!) if she was able to fill as much of it as possible with gaming.

Returning to Phantasy Star Online 2 (Kimimi the Game-Eating She-Monster) – Inspired by the recent announcement of Phantasy Star Online 2 for the West, Kimimi decides to jump back in to the Japanese version for a refresher, and provides a bit of background of how it’s developed over the years.

Retro Game Anamnesis: Panic Restaurant – Wanpaku Kokkun no Gourmet World (NES, 1992) (Otaku Alcove) – Moonlitasteria takes on a popular but hard-to-find and expensive NES title.

10 Anime That Everyone Hates That I Love (Anime QandA) – As part of his new (and admirable!) positivity kick, Cactus Matt presents us with a selection of shows that are fairly widely disliked, but which he has always had a good time with. Love what you love!

Rogue Month – Descenders (I Played The Game!) – Rob takes on an unusual title: it’s a “roguelite” mountain biking game. An interesting idea with what sounds like slightly flawed execution!

That’s that for now, then. As I say, I’m away for the next week or so, but I’ll be putting out some articles when I find some time and/or energy. Expect stuff on Castlevania III and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at the very least, and probably some other bits and bobs too.

Don’t forget if you want more Pete in your life you can get just that with just a $1 per month contribution over on Patreon to gain access to my daily blog, and $5 a month gets you monthly wallpapers featuring MoeGamer’s mascots on top of that. Or if you just want to show some one-time support, buying me a coffee or two via Ko-Fi is always very much appreciated. Every dollar gets invested back into the site in one way or another, whether it’s covering expenses or allowing me to pick up new things to cover.

Thank you, as ever, for your continued support, and I’ll see you in the week!
