The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 22 – A Crafted World

Happy Monday! Banish those new work week blues with another episode of The MoeGamer Podcast, featuring my fine self and the ever-charming Mr Chris Caskie of MrGilderPixels.

The MoeGamer Podcast is available in several places. You can subscribe to my channel on YouTube to stay up to date with both the video versions of the podcast and my weekly videos (including the Atari A to Z retro gaming series); you can follow on Soundcloud for the audio-only version of the podcast; you can subscribe via RSS to get the audio-only version of the podcast in your favourite podcast app; or you can subscribe via iTunes. Please do at least one of these if you can; it really helps us out!

Or you can hit the jump to watch or listen to today’s episode right here on MoeGamer.

In today’s episode, we kick off with a discussion of a fairly dry period in the news calendar, including delays to Compile Heart’s Arc of Alchemist; a new port of Devil May Cry for Switch (and what that might mean); packaged releases of Psikyo shooters for Switch; the truth behind Experience’s new game; Monster Hunter World’s expansion and more.

We follow that up with a discussion about what we’ve been playing recently, including Inti Creates’ unusual Dragon Marked for Death, Neverinth and Shadow Warrior 2. We also somehow get a bit distracted and start talking about mods, because it’s pizza time!

Finally, the main topic for the episode is the use of distinctive, “crafted” art styles for various games. The current Cover Game, Our World is Endedis just one of numerous examples of this being used extremely effectively, so we have a nice long chat about why we like this and why developers might choose to present their work in this way.

Enjoy the show!

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this article. I’ve been writing about games in one form or another since the days of the old Atari computers, with work published in Page 6/New Atari User, PC Zone, the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, GamePro, IGN, USgamer, Glixel and more over the years, and I love what I do.
