Around the Network

Good even… err, morning. Gosh, it got late all of a sudden.

I’ve been editing a podcast today! Hurrah! Please look forward to it (hopefully) tomorrow, as you’ll be able to enjoy both Chris and me waxing lyrical about the joy of gory games. We had some rather in-depth thoughts, as it turned out!

Anyway, in the meantime, there’s a chance you might have missed something awesome in the last week, so let’s have a look back over everything that’s been going on!

Sunday Shooting: Minus Zero – Sometimes it’s nice to have a game that does things a bit differently. Triangle Service’s Minus Zero certainly qualifies for that descriptor in a variety of ways!

Sonic the Hedgehog: Old Meets New – Couple of additional Sonic pieces this week, kicking off with an enthusiastic look at anniversary title Sonic Generations.

Sonic the Hedgehog: A New Twist – …and following with an exploration of Sonic Lost World for Wii U, which isn’t a particularly well-loved Sonic title, but which has, of course, subsequently become my favourite Sonic. I am doomed to never fit in.

Warriors Wednesday: Junglist Massive – The Shu people head into the jungle and find themselves face-to-face with the formidable Meng Huo and the even more terrifying Zhurong. Will they be able to recruit some valuable new allies?

Waifu Wednesday: Zhurong – If you’ve never encountered Zhurong… well. Here you are!

Delving into Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush #1 – I thought it’s high time I explored some Kirby games, as I’m completely unfamiliar with them. I decided to start with a relatively recent acquisition: Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush for Wii U.

Deluxe Mini Monster: Take Your Retro Gaming to a New Level – I got an early birthday present from my wife: a kick-ass joystick for 9-pin retro systems. Check out my thoughts here.

New Game Plus: Deep Water and Dark Forests – We check in with Rorona again as she continues her quest to prove her worth to the kingdom. As always, she has no problems with her assignment, leaving her plenty of time to go exploring…

Atari A to Z

Lots of shooting this week! Mr Bond does a bit of shooting from the safety of his jumping, floating magic car, Jake and Duke shoot robots to save naked women on the Atari ST, and Major Havoc blasts into action in the arcades.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

I am a proud Patron of Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose, the Cheap Show podcast and The Game Chasers, because all of them put out great content that is worth your support. The Game Chasers are working on a movie, too; be sure to check out their Kickstarter if you’re a fan.

Check out some examples of what these fine folks have been up to here:

And as always, it’s time for a spin around the WordPress Reader to see what’s caught my attention from the broader community recently. If you have a blog you think I should be following, please do let me know!

My Systems are Not for Sale (The Way I Game) – Duznot has another story from his gaming past, this time about “system hopping” and leaving past generations behind.

It was my birthday! (This is my place.) – Fred went on an awesome-looking hike and paints quite the picture with his description of the experience. And there are actual pictures, too.

The Most “Isekai” Isekai Anime Ever Made (Anime QandA) – Cactus Matt kicks off a new season of anime reviews with a look at Wise Man’s Grandchild, and some thoughts on tropes not necessarily being a bad thing.

I Have a Bad Feeling About This (I drink and watch anime) – Whenever Irina has a bad idea, there’s usually plenty of discussion to follow. This time around, she offers some musings on the use of terminology that is understood in one way by some communities, and a completely different, offensive way by others.

Friendly Werewolf Girl (MrGilderPixels) – My good buddy and podcasting partner Chris Caskie has been enjoying his new XP-Pen display, and this is the first non-pixel art piece he’s coloured with it. I love a girl with good eyebrows.

And that’s that for this week! It’s my birthday tomorrow, along with MoeGamer’s fifth anniversary. How time flies! I have a couple of days off from the day job, too, so I will be making full use of those in various ways. I’ll leave it to your imagination.

Hope you had a pleasant weekend, and that your upcoming week is as good as it can be! Please enjoy the podcast tomorrow.
