Around the Network

A late one today, as I’ve been busy recording videos for most of the weekend!

I like to try and get stuff done “ahead of time” with regard to video, as it takes time to edit, render and upload, so with a free weekend I thought I’d try and “pre-record” as many Atari A to Z and MoeGamerTV videos as I possibly could. I didn’t quite achieve everything I wanted to, but I did pretty well.

Anyway. That aside, you might have missed all sorts of goodness this week. Let’s check out what that included!

Sunday Driving: Threshold Break – We take on Split/Second’s most fearsome opponent: rubber-banding AI!

Daemon x Machina: Exploring the Prototype Missions – Nintendo seems pretty excited about its upcoming cel-shaded mech title. I was a bit on the fence… until I played the demo. Now I’m absolutely on board with what we have to look forward to.

Delving Into Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition #4 – In this fourth exploration of Koei Tecmo’s sprawling hack-and-slash, we take a look at the game’s basic mechanics and progression that you will encounter throughout the Story mode.

Warriors Wednesday: Some People Are Into Weird Feet – And Da Ji certainly has weird feet. Keiji Maeda doesn’t care, though; all he cares about is battering his way through all and sundry while laughing like Brian Blessed. Which I can respect.

Waifu Wednesday: Neptune – Somehow, despite a fair amount of Neptunia content on this here site, I’d never explored Neptune herself outside of the articles on her games. Let’s fix that!

Shmup Essentials: Devil Engine – Oh my God. Buy this game. It’s amazing.

New Game Plus: Time On Our Hands – We finish up Atelier Rorona DX’s second assignment in our New Game Plus run, and find that we have plenty of time on our hands for other activities.

428: Shibuya Scramble – A Question of Identity – A core theme in 428: Shibuya Scramble is the question of “who am I?” In this Cover Game feature, we take a look at how the various protagonists explore this matter.

Atari A to Z

Three great vids this week, including a Jeff Minter classic, an unusual science-themed first-person shoot ’em up-cum-puzzler, and my Mum’s favourite classic Atari arcade game.

Don’t forget you can follow the dedicated Atari A to Z site for just the Atari A to Z videos, plus a convenient alphabetised (of course) index for your convenience.

Cool Stuff By People Who Aren’t Me

As always, I’d like to take a moment to note that I’m a Patron of Paul “Mr Biffo” Rose, the Cheap Show podcast and The Game Chasers, because all of them put out great content that is worth your support. The Game Chasers are working on a movie, too; be sure to check out their Kickstarter if you’re a fan.

Check out some examples of what these fine folks have been up to here:

And, as always, let’s take a delve into my Likes to see some cool stuff from around the WordPress community. Again, I’ve had a pretty busy week so I unfortunately haven’t had as much time to catch up with everyone’s work as I’d like, but nonetheless here are some highlights:

My Girlfriend is Shobitch:The Reverse Ecchi? (Shallow Dives in Anime) – Dewbond kicks this off with a warning that he’ll be talking about the portrayal of women in media. But stop! Don’t run away, this isn’t your usual games journalist-tier “this woman is wearing a skirt that is a bit too short, so the entire work is bad” nonsense, it’s an interesting discussion of a show that is the inverse of the usual “ecchi” formula. Check it out.

Crackdown 3 Review (The Late Night Session) – The Night Owl has been playing some Crackdown 3 on Xbox One. I really enjoyed the first two, despite them being practically the exact same game, so I’ve been curious about how the Xbox One version would end up.

What Types of Blog are you Most Likely to Pay For? (I drink and watch anime) – Irina has some questions that need answers. Stop by and give her what she wants! And perhaps ponder if there are any creators out there who could do with your support.

Daemon “Eh” Machina – Reviewing the Prototype Missions Demo (Adventure Rules) – Robert Ian Shepard has a diametrically opposed reaction to Daemon x Machina to what I did earlier in the week, but reading his experiences versus mine makes for an interesting comparison. Armored Core games (which Daemon x Machina effectively is in all but name) have always been a bit divisive… and this looks set to continue in earnest!

Best Loli/Shota (Anime QandA) – Let’s see how Cactus Matt’s 30 day fanservice challenge is goi– uhhhhhh… I hope you’re not at work right now!

All right. That’s that for another week. As always, thank you for your support. You help MoeGamer and Atari A to Z grow just by reading and watching, but you can really make a difference with a quick click on a “like” button, subscribing over on YouTube or leaving a comment. And if you really want to be nice, you can, of course, support my projects on Patreon and Ko-Fi; I’ve revamped my Patreon page this week to better reflect the breadth of what I’m up to, so please check it out.

Now I’m off to bed for some much-needed sleep! I’ve been working hard this weekend! Have a great week, everyone. Take care!
