Or you can hit the jump to watch or listen to today’s episode right here on MoeGamer.

In today’s episode, Chris and I say DEATH TO METROIDVANIA! But before that, we indulge in the usual discussion of recent news that has caught our respective eyes and a chat about what we’ve been playing recently. Get a sneak peek at what’s coming next for Cover Game features here on MoeGamer!

News includes discussion of Final Fantasy XIV, Imageepoch’s mystery project, Trails of Cold Steel III, Giga Wrecker, Moero Chronicle H, Metroid Prime 4, Dragon Marked for Death and the Sega Ages releases for Switch.

In the What We’ve Been Playing segment, we talk Gunhouse, Fist of the North Star: Lost ParadiseAce Combat 7, Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition and 428: Shibuya Scramble.

And as for that provocative statement… well, let’s just say we don’t actually want to kill off a distinct genre of gaming; we just want to think a little harder about how we discuss games and talk about genre in general. Have a listen and you’ll see what we mean!

As always, thanks for watching and/or listening; we hope you enjoy the show!

  1. I do enjoy the Metroidvania as a genre, though I have to say it’s been a while since it has truly innovated. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make the releases a bit predictable – or least it did when the genre was popular. In a lot of ways, it got supplanted by the open-world game, but now that it’s not as pervasive as it once was, they make for a refreshing change of pace even when they’re not exactly innovative.
