The MoeGamer Podcast: Episode 10 – Hype, Hype, Hooray!

We’re into double digits! We’re a real podcast now!

Don’t forget you can view the podcast in its full video glory on YouTube as part of my YouTube channel as a whole, or you can check out the audio-only version of the podcast on Soundcloud. You can also subscribe via RSS at this link, as well as finding it on iTunes and a couple of other podcast platforms I can’t remember the name of.

Or you can hit the jump and watch or listen to the latest episode right here, right now.

In this episode, Chris and I discuss the latest happenings in gaming news that have caught our eye before moving on to a discussion of what we’ve been playing recently. We’ve both been surprisingly charmed by Nintendo and Cygames’ new mobile title Dragalia Lostamong other things.

Our main topic for this episode is the subject of hype, and how it can colour our perceptions of a particular game even before we’ve picked up a controller to try it for ourselves. We contemplate how hype saturation can put you off wanting to try something popular, how “reverse hype” can cause something to explode in popularity well after its original release, and how excessive negative press attention can actually work out in a game’s favour.

Don’t forget to stop by Chris’ website and commission him for some artwork. He’s very good, so he is.
